newigor -> How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 4:16:00 AM)

Hello all,

Maybe this is a funny question, buth i'd like to know how i best make a BDSM room in my new house.
OK, i know it needs some ( ok, a lot ;) ) of hooks etc to hang/restrain a sub to etc, but, i was wondering more to the final touches of the room.
I'm planning to place also a gynacolog chair in the room, wich is lucky enough spacy enough to do this, but, i'd like to give the whole room some kind of relaxing look.
Most of the time BDSM rooms are look a likes of dungeons, but thats kinda dark in my opinion.
I'd like to have the room a more "you're OK here" kinda feeling, if you know what i mean.

So i was wondering if there are here on the forum other people who have such a BDSM room, and how they made it this kind.
Some pictures for illustration are always interesting, it gives directly a good idea of the looks and feeling of the room.
On most websites you'll find enough pictures of dungeons or hospital look a like BDSM rooms, but i dont want something like that.

Anyone who can help me out ?

My public dungeon had the walls painted like castle stone which isn't the look you want but they then painted the ceiling blue and we hung white christmas lights like starts, it was a pretty cool effect.  In another local playspace they painted things purple and had lots of velvet.  I would love a room that had the look of something moorish, exotic and sensual, perfect for bellydancing.

What sort of feel are you looking for?

My idea of a "bdsm room" is one with a willing slave girl inside of it. At that point, it's completely furnished. :)

If you have a piece of medical furniture in the room already, you can set the room up to be a medical exam type area with that type of furniture and fixtures. To soften it up some, you can add plants and other "mood pieces" to tone things down a bit. Paint it in pastel colors and have softer indirect lighting. CD

Our public play space had a lot of purple velvet curtains to soften the walls and to create room dividers, and was carpeted with a very low pile easy-to-clean carpet which made it pleasantly warm underfoot. There were some chairs for a chill-out-after-the-scene space though I would have preferred a sofa for that. It had reverse cycle air conditioning so it could be heated or cooled for comfortable naked play all year round. We were stuck with fluorescent tube lighting in the ceiling, so used only 1 tube per fixture instead of 2 and wrapped the tubes in coloured light gel (just roll it round and sticky-tape it down, dead easy!). We chose red, blue and purple on different tubes to create a soft ambience and yet gave enough light over the bdsm furniture (which was strategically placed) so you could see to do something fiddly like needle play or how the skin was responding to a flogger. The bdsm furniture was painted black with upholstery or covers in either rich red or purple, which gave a fairly exotic look to the whole room. We put a tall black and silver screen near the doorway so you had to come around it into the room, so it wasn't immediately "in-your-face" and gave those inside the room some measure of privacy (as the door opened to the carpark area). We had a clothes rack near the door for street clothes. We had 2 toilets opening off the corridor at the inside end of the room, one with a shower for wet play. Also off the corridor was a kitchenette and door to the outside under-cover smoking area, and off the other end of the corridor was a supper alcove with table and chairs for at least 8 people at a time. Music was playing from another area of the large shed (for that's what it was) so it was audible but not too loud. As it was on a 5 acre block, we didn't really have to worry about masking the noise for neighbours! For a bit of ambience outside we used bamboo flares "Survivor style" on either side of the entry, which lit up the sign. Dammit, it really was near-perfect, shame we had to sell the house and move [:(]

Now obviously for a room in a house just for a couple, you wouldn't need or have available all that much space, but the overall look was aimed at being inviting and comfortable enough for people to get naked and play. Didn't really want a harsh dungeon atmosphere. Hope there are some useful ideas here!

PS The room I've described is NOT the one I am standing in front of the cross in My pic ... that's Our much smaller and more utilitarian shed here where We've moved to! Thought I should clarify that ...

I realize this may sound silly, but have you ever been to a spa? They try to create an atmosphere that is very tranquil. They use soft lighting and soothing colors, reminiscent of  water and sky.  They strive not only to be visually appealing but it engages all the senses, using scent and soft music . I don't think that would be too hard to recreate.

KnightofMists -> RE: How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 1:26:25 PM)

it really is a preference thing and what some like others might not.

In my last house my Dungeon was very dark.  black cloth around the walls and of course alot of toys hanging from the walls and a couple mirrors.  The ceiling was black as well.. but laced with chains across the ceiling.  The lighting was red and green.  The flooring is grey mats that easy on the feet.

In my new house... I am finishing up the new dungeon.  It's alot brighter.... the complete room is lined in light coloured pine wood.  Of course there is still alot of toys long the walls.  We are still finishing up the ceiling .. it is going to be the same as the last Dungeon as well as the flooring.  However, one thing I am looking to do alittle more of is tasteful erotic and personal pictures of the three of us... maybe a few more mirrors than I had in the last Dungeon.. and considering a few candles as well.  The other thing is the furniture you put in the room.. which really depends on your play... for myself I have a bondage bed that can be suspended, a cage, a large horse as well as an A Frame and then I am going to toss a big black bean bag chair in spot for the cuddling afterwards.  I wish it was just alittle bigger.... This one is bigger than my last one.. and still I wish it was alittle bigger.

1)  Take one room
2)  Add one top and one bottom
3)  Spice to preference
4)  Stir vigorously

Don't forget to take the top off for the last 15 minutes.

SlaveSimone -> RE: How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 2:19:19 PM)

Maybe you could go for sort of an Arabian/Moroccan theme, lots of reds golds and purples, tons of draped fabric all over the place in velvets, satins and silk, a little sitting area on the floor in a corner consisting of big fluffy pillows..  Some neat lighting, like some old antique lamps and some white Christmas lights would be nice too.  I'm having terrible time finding pictures of what I see in my head at the moment, so I can't really provide any links or a I would. However, If you would like some help, let me know, I have lots of free time, and I love interior design.

bipolarber -> RE: How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 3:01:14 PM)

I doubt you want to get too extreme... but you can do a great deal in making a room "comfy and secure" through the use of color scheme. You might try Googleing "BDSM play" under images, and pay attentin the the backgrounds of some of the more professional photo shoots. That may give you some ideas.

Personally, when it came tim to repaint our Master bedroom, we kinda stole some of the design from the movie "Secretary" Primarily, the very naturalistic colors of Mr. Grey's office. It also went well with the dark walnut of our bedroom furniture quite well.

In a single sentance: look around, and steal the best ideas for yourself.

SimplyMichael -> RE: How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 3:24:02 PM)

For me, I want "eyes wide shut" sort of theme.

azropedntied -> RE: How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 3:44:53 PM)

my ideal room would have to come outta the get smart flicks or the movie "real men " you push some buttons and  tables turn , murphy beds come down , rack appears , flat screen  etc . sorta a suprise room VS a typical dungeon  . it also serves multi function when not in use  .

earthycouple -> RE: How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 3:54:05 PM)

my mind immediately went to things like weight bearing beams and such....hooks and all are great...but if you want them to bear weight think about those aspects as you create ambiance....our room has white walls with a huge rainbow painted around it right in the center of the walls....so there you have it...how much more fun could you get?

nwcutie102 -> RE: How to build BDSM room ? (7/18/2008 4:01:01 PM)

a cuddly blanket, some tasteful pictures or artwork on the wall, candles and a few green plants..... less scary

Not sure about a BDSM room but I just painted the bedroom in my apartment black - walls, ceiling, paintwork, door. It functions not just as a bedroom, but also a small black box theatre, a photographic studio, and it could make a pretty effective dungeon.

What's the most important consideration? Space - this is all you really need. The room itself is space, but you can then subdivide the room further into spaces, space for furniture, a space for equipment, and space for doing things.

The thing is whatever you fix or put into position you commit yourself to, especially when it comes to furniture. I got rid of my double bed, I now sleep on a mattress. But the mattress goes up against a wall and there's more space. It's okay if you use a piece of furniture a lot, or centre your scenes on one specific piece of furniture, but if you like to have different scenes with different furniture can take up space which could be used for something else.

Sure, my walls are black, but I also have sheets, old curtains, and these serve as backdrops, they can be hung from the ceiling, act as screens, you just need a few thumb tacks and a bit of imagination and you can turn a bare room into a space which helps to set a mood. Then you can pay particular attention to lighting - I have candles with candle sticks, lamps, lights and halogen spotlights (for photos). I have a wicker chest, wardrobe, a space for equipment, chairs, incense burners, and something which plays music. Scatter cushions and larger cushions for sitting on can be better than chairs for sitting on, as they're more portable.

I'd say the biggest or most influential factor when designing your BDSM room or 'studio' is space and how you use that space. Bear in mind that clutter is not only distracting, but can also be quite dangerous, especially if someone trips or falls.

Hope this helps..

I didn't blueprint it but the pic should help with some ideas. Somewhere on these boards is s thread of mine with before and after photos of making that dungeon/bedroom.

My dungeon play space is a dual purpose room, 1 its in my garage, I have a 23ft by 20 ft area that has 15ft high ceilings.I have a wood stove to keep warm.wood panelling alot of built ins, a cage that opens into the bar area, plus a nice fold out toy cabinet. A pool table that converts into a play table etc. Both a party room and my dungeon for my slave.

I just have to say that your room is pretty awesome. I think when Alpha and I get our own house, I'm going to do the same with a walk-in closet!
