anyone here a member of ravelry.com? :)

if you're not, it's a site for knitters and crocheters - you have to wait for an invite to join but it's well worth it.

You bet I am! It's an absolute BLAST! it took me days to get all my stash posted in there <grin> I still don't have all my projects listed, I've got a huge basket of scarves and shawls by my desk to work on taking pics to post. Almost everyone in our Stitch n Bitch group is on ravelry, and we've gotten some new SnB members too from having posted the SnB group on ravelry, folks who didn't know about us, found us there. I've been having a great time, and just started my very first ever sock, using a pattern I got from one of the gals in the Simply Stockinette Socks group  :)  Look me up and say How do! :) I'm CatWhoWalksAlone there also :)

oh... and also....

assalaamu aleykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu :)

waleykum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh! :)

that is really awesome :) we don't have knitting groups here that i know of (although snb was my intro to knitting) but everyone just congregates around our local shop which is really nice :) the bookstore next door is moving, sadly, though. it was a prime knitting spot. thankfully they're the ones who pulled me in so i haven't been totally lost on ravelry, LOL...i just joined today - got my invite awhile back but hadn't had time. i didn't realize that i would be spending 5 hours on there right after creating my account, either, LOL! i'm yaaaishah there :)

We have 2 SnB groups here.... Monday morning and Thursday evening. I started the Thurs. evening one with my mom, for people who worked regular hours, and I'm here to tell you... build the field, and they'll come! We have SnB at a Panera Bread, where they don't mind if we sit and knit/crochet/embroider/whatever. Sometimes hubbies come along and bring their laptops and sit with us and surf the Internet. All you have to do is set the date, time and place, and people will BE there! We have our own website and Yahoo group, and we have business cards and magnets and calendar magnets from vistaprint, and I've just gotten a free t-shirt from vistaprint announcing "Stitch n Bitch" on the front in big bright letters, LOL. We put in group orders to KnitPicks and Patternworks, and take roadtrips to sheep shearings and a local alpaca farm, etc., and have summer pool parties and an annual Christmas party at members' homes :) :)

Not to mention of course, the knitting itself... and showing off/sharing yarns, and patterns, etc., LOL

I still haven't been invited to Ravelry..... I've been knitting for years and am learning to spin wool. Do either of you work with the bamboo fibres? I love exploring and playing with the different textures. I work with both needles and looms. Since I just moved to a new area, I need to see what shops, if any, are around here. So far I've only found a Michaels.

michael's is no fun! i used to knit with acrylic yarn until i found our local shop. thankfully, they don't sell acrylic yarn there. after knitting with alpaca, i don't know if i could knit with anything from michael's...ever again (although the soy yarns aren't so bad). i'm a total spoiled yarn snob now.

i've never finished a project in bamboo, but it feels awesome :) i definitely want to do something with bamboo soon. i really want to learn spinning - it sounds like fun.

how long ago did you request the invite? it only took a couple of weeks to get mine.

Hmmmm, it's been a while so I just requested one again. Maybe it got ate or something. That would be about my luck. I keep some cheap acrylic around for dinking with patterns, when I'm playing with something or trying something out that way if I have to rip it out or don't like it, I can chuck it without guilt. But boy, if I had my entire stash shipped here from Idaho, I think Lumus would freak. He's not used to someone who knits, sews, and other things. I don't even know if he knows that I know how to spin yet....   I can just see the look on his face when the raw wool turns up.....

And I'm with you, I love working with the different fibres. Soy, alpaca, bamboo, wool, you name it. Learning to spin is fun, it's hard work though. I was exhausted after my first class. I learned on a double-treadle wheel. If you get a chance to learn, you'd probably enjoy it. I definitely want to get a wheel here and get spinning again. So much fun!

Some ladies from our SnB have recently knit some socks with bamboo and they feel terrific, I can hardly wait to try some! I get my alpaca from KnitPicks... I particularly like Elegance, at 70% alpaca and 30% silk, it has the softness of alpaca but the silk gives it body and a crispness (for lack of a better description), that I love working with.
