As a tourist who's been to NYC 4 times now, I'd say avoid the subway unless you like smelly, overcrowded pieces of shit. Just take a cab for the misc 4-6 bucks. I mean, you're on vacation right? If you can get tix to a Yankees game, I'd go check it out. Granted, I wasn't that impressed with it the times I've been there (its no fenway *gasp*) but its a piece of baseball history none the less. As far as the neighborhood around the park, its a dump and not really worth going to IMO if you don't have tix to a game. Don't even get me started on that monstrousity that is Shea stadium! SoHo is cool. Lots of cool stores and its where the younger crowd hangs out. Chelsea is cool to, albiet a bit gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!), just FYI. While I do agree that Times Square is a tourist trap and pretty lame, I still think its worth going to once to to check out. It is the place you see on TV and in the movies. While you're there, go to the living room bar at night inside the W hotel. Like I said, I've been to NYC on a few occsions, all of them accompanied by locals, and the Living Room bar is where you will no doubt find the best looking women. Granted, beers are 9 bucks and Bourbons on the rocks were like 14, the sheer quality of ass makes it worth it. If I could do anything over again, it would be spending more time in Central Park. For some reason I'm astonsihed on a very big, nice, clean park in the middle of that city. If the weather is gonna be nice, bring / buy a big towel - blanket and just spend the day out there people watching. EAT, EAT, EAT. There are about a gajillion great places to eat. Stuff your face every chance you can get. Pizza, steak, italian, chineese, etc. etc. etc.
