PainSmith -> Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 12:02:13 AM)

The producer of the very worst mass-produced beer in the world* has been taken over by the producer of some of the best mass-produced beers in the world. Actually, InBev are business, first and foremost, and AB has successfully made itself a huge market, so I doubt there'll be dramatic change, beyond a slow improvement in standards.

*Apparently, a Glaswegian woman once sent some faux Budweiser to a lab for analysis, and was informed her camel was pregnant.

Had she sent real Buttwiper to the lab, she'd have been told her Clydesdale had a terminal illness.

It's not a done deal just yet, but shouldn't have any roadblocks except political.

The transaction is subject to the approval of InBev and Anheuser-Busch shareholders, and other customary regulatory approvals. Shareholders of both companies will have an opportunity to vote on the proposed combination at special shareholder meetings that will be scheduled at a later date. InBev's controlling shareholder has agreed to vote its shares of InBev in favor of the combination. In light of the limited overlap between the InBev and Anheuser-Busch businesses, the combination should not encounter any significant regulatory issues, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2008.

This one has me kind of torn, I hate bud, but it is a sad day to see an American icon going foreign.

I never heard of the off brand.

....  anytime the pundits say American products... I try to think, what products?

Irishknight -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 4:33:17 AM)

Maybe you're right and this will serve to improve buttwiper.  It needs something.

pahunkboy -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 4:36:52 AM)

being that there is "synergy"  and that instead of 2 CEO compensation "packages"   that means beer could be cheaper!!!!!

that other name sure means nothing to me.

Real_Trouble -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 6:42:01 PM)

I object to the vicious smearing of both camels and Clydesdales in this thread.

Hippiekinkster -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 6:44:50 PM)

I'm doing a blind tasting tonight of Flying Dog IPA, Terrapin (Athens, GA) India Brown Ale, and Coors. Should be interesting. Any bets?    [sm=givemebeer.gif]

Hippiekinkster -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 7:50:43 PM)

From the aforementioned Flying Dog label:

"Tired of those annoying 3AM hang-ups from your crazy, stalking EX? Turns out the same qualities that make your EX so damn annoying make our Snake Dog IPA so attractive. Chock full of bitterness, bite, and attitude, it slaps you in the face with flavor. Just like psycho EX did at the bar last weekend."

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 8:07:19 PM)

BTW...

The only thing worse than a wine snob is a beer snob.

Alumbrado -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 8:21:13 PM)

Its hard to reconcile the notion of snobbery with something made out of rotted cattle feed, and digestive tract by products.[:D]

GreedyTop -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 8:24:57 PM)

thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for that visual, Alum.... :P

servantforuse -> RE: Oh you lucky Americans... (7/14/2008 8:25:12 PM)
