The problem I have with this is not so much that I think it is borderline rude, as if the person is not interested in the said topic, or bored with it it would just just as easy not to post on it at all, (I rarely sense this referral to past posts is done in a helpful way)but it is that just because this particular question was asked and answered by CM members say 6 months ago perhaps someone who has joined in the last 6 months and would like to offer THEIR opinion.

Hi firstslaveca,  I understand what you are saying.  But being one who has posted a couple of threads, I'd like to lend my impressions about what you mentioned.

When people post links, I see it like this.  The subject has been covered, and going to it gives many more responses, because many of those responses are from those who are no longer on CM.  A valid point is a valid point, even without a valid profile.
I also see many others who don't do that, and provide additional insight.  I see it as getting the best of both worlds, documented thoughts and original ones.

I just feel that when asking a question on the boards, you are looking for a resource of information.  Those who post links to threads related or identical on the topic IMHO aren't being rude, they are just expanding resource material. At least that's how I look at it.  The only time I take it as rude is someone posts to my topic, and says, "geez, this has been covered before" and doesn't post exactly where it was covered before.

I think the posting of links by longer term members isn't intentionally meant to insult anyone's intelligence.  Even the most computer savvy individual has to learn how to navigate a new site.

I hope that you can see it through my eyes, you get the best of both worlds.  The links provide a greater representative sample of thought than just those with an original comment.

Welcome to CM, I hope we see you often.

and this is the sentiment I was trying to address, obviously I did not convey that well because it has become about me hating links, which I don't, in fact I often hit the links myself (even the dreaded tub girl), my point is not that information old or new is bad, the point I was trying to make was give the newbies a chance ! not just the ones that post but maybe the ones that would like to respond.

i get the feeling that the ones that have been around for a long time, have formed bonds, and feel completely comfortable here sometimes forget what its like to try and break the ice, this is the first thread I have ever posted, I am usually happy just to be a voyuer, I didn't post it because anyone had done it to me, I did it because I have read threads by obvious newbies and cringed at the way some people respond to them and it was my foolhardy attempt to maybe get people to consider how hard maybe it was just for that person to ask the question, regardless of how naive or overdiscussed it actually was and just be kind.....but I already deeply regret it.

Don't regret it, I think you had an excellent thread going.  I hope I came across the way I intended, meaning, I understand because it has happened to me.

Keep in mind, and I'm sure you have noticed, too many posters never have anything constructive to say.  Yes, I make a snarky post here and there. Too many comedians, and not enough night clubs I suppose.  When I notice a pattern of behavior from someone, go to their profile, and hit the "view posts" tabs.  I think you will find some people have nothing better to do than try and be funny. I think they forget, there are people who are asking a simple question.  As the saying goes, "the only stupid question is the one not asked."  Now there are posts by goofs who are clearly trolling for masturbation material.  You asked a legit question.  Reading the thread, I think you received many good posts and thoughts.  Run with those.  Separate the wheat from the chaff, so to say.

Again, I hope we see more of you on the boards.  And a beautiful picture, was that done professionally of you? Or is it a picture you enjoy?

I definitely got that you were trying to be kind and I ty for that.

I wont take it too much to heart, I just feel for those that it took a lot to wander out on the limb to begin with, I dislike seeing some so eager to cut it from the tree.

as for the picture...it is just one I enjoy, if it was of me it would be about 20 years old by now smiles, it just speaks to me so I like seeing it
