Can we share Blocked lists, so that new users can subscribe to the most popular Blocked lists when they first sign-up?

Owner59 -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/5/2008 8:04:57 AM)

Nope.

Not here.

With this new evidence that has come to light above I rest the case for the defence and ask that this be dismissed your honour.[8|]

Leatherist -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/5/2008 8:31:39 AM)

No,but it would be nice if they had a logrithm that limited mass mails to two a day. It's pretty much the cut and paste creeps around here that fill up the mailboxes.

wandersalone -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/5/2008 8:38:33 AM)

But why?  Part of the fun is finding out for yourself who the creeps are.

And as a serious answer.... what is a person is blocked by a group of people but they could be someone you really gel with if you give them a chance?  Are you then going to want people to vet your real life contacts and tell you who to like and who to not like simply because of the opinions of a few others?

DjinnNYC -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/5/2008 9:14:22 AM)

Raechard et al - the problem with the argument posed at that link is that it ignores the "wisdom of the crowd". If you allow anyone to share their Block list, and some Block lists are more popular than others - then there is probably some merit to the contents of that list. No list will be perfect, but there has to be some way to mitigate the creepy factor on here - it's simply a design problem.

Not addressing this issue is a huge business problem for this simple reason: most of the revenue from this site comes from text and image banners - a model that depends on traffic volume. Given that most of the traffic on this site is men, it begs the question - why are men coming here? To meet women, in most cases. So why aren't women sticking-around once they join?

Again - simply a design problem. Not addressing it is negligent, and presents a huge opportunity to the website that can solve it.

If enough hit the report button on those messages they get taken care of.

We are all blacklisted in the outside world so bare that in mind when asking for it here.

edit: wording.

Ahem (checks gender and those of a lot of her friends) a LOT of women ARE sticking around....please read the link(possibly you didnt) the SITE does not allow blacklists....if unhappy, and simply a design problem, one might suggest that 1) you ask for a prompt refund (as there are almost a million users, so not all feel as you do ..and 2) go design a site yourself that does not have this flaw you state.

One last thing....one might be glad that there is a not a blacklist for whiners, just sayin.........

Aileen1968 -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/5/2008 10:52:26 AM)

There are a lot of women on this site.  A lot just on this side.

DjinnNYC -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/5/2008 9:48:04 PM)

Way to promote discussion and new ideas, kc692

wtf is with this group - seriously - first and last post

ServingGirrl -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/5/2008 9:57:58 PM)

Djinn, firstly, i don't think that a blacklist is a valid idea as it it too open to being misused.   Second, as a woman on the list; hey, i'm still here  :)

As for your last comment, i know myself that i get very little in the way of direct answers to any of my posts in here, presumably because i'm new and no one quite knows how to take me yet.   That's fine by me; in any walk of life it takes time to gain "street cred" and i'm willing to take that time because, as a generalised observation, the folk here seem to be worth getting to know and have many interesting, informative and funny points of view i can learn from and have a good laugh at.   Eventually my name will stick in a few people's minds and they will unbend around me but for the moment i, like you, am a new kid on the block.

Unlike you though, i'm a patient one  :)

Maya2001 -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/6/2008 1:55:06 PM)

Well not everyone uses block lists the same, it is not used just to eliminate the creeps  for example some people may block a person because they are too young or too old, they don't like their picture of profile, some may block due it  ehtnicity, some to gender, role, because they dislike the comments the person spoke of on  the message forum . or because the person viewed their profile that they have no interest in  etc...if we shared  and made  a common list eventually pretty much everyone here would be on it and there would be nobody left to email.

DjinnNYC -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/6/2008 1:57:59 PM)

I'm not proposing that a single block list be shared, but rather that anyone could elect to share their block list. If it had the issues that you described, then it wouldn't be popular. However, if it contained a list of genuine creeps, more people would be inclined to use it.

NumberSix -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/6/2008 2:00:15 PM)

Has anyone considered the consequences vis a vis the Soviet bloc?

I hear you, but it wont fly, one womans ick from an on your knees bitch, would make another happily scab them up and chap their lips.

p.s.  is you really professiona?

ServingGirrl -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/6/2008 2:01:42 PM)

Djinn, define a "genuine creep".   What you find creepy might be my idea of a fun time, and vice versa.   That's the problem with this idea; i applaud your thinking and the spirit the suggestion is made in, but it is unworkable because of the sheer number of variables and opinions involved.

Raechard -> RE: Creep Filter Feature Idea (7/6/2008 2:05:06 PM)

You've never received spam from the same email twice have you? It's a losing battle in that respect. Therefore any block list would most likely be based on personal preference rather than the elimination of creepy crawly types that can creep into a new shell.
Why people need more than one name is beyond me[8|]

You need to give it up, Djinn. You're promoting blacklisting and it's simply not going to happen. This is 'not' a new idea. It's been discussed to death and firmly discarded by the powers that be.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. pronouncing grandiose shit like that, and then posting again is just kinda fuckin' creepy dood.......

Smell what I'm cookin?

http://www.collarchat.com/m_1163969/tm.htm

and really, it is not promoting discussions when it has been done to death, the only larger 'NEW idea' thread runs along the lines of fatgirls, tribute and being the only one.
