A funny thing happened to me this evening. I started a conversation with a person that had california as home on their profile, then they proceed to tell me they are in West Africa. The next thing is they need money to get back to the states.... For the record, the United States Embasy in ANY country can and will help any US citizen return to the United States unless that person is trying to flee from criminal prosecution, and in some instances, even then. Funny how fast she disappeared when I explained that to her.

or if there is no embassy in the country, anyhow that is a common scam.

I asked about these things. The response I got was frightening. One poster said that they had seen research on this and a surprisingly large percentage of US citizens fell for it. So they do think we are stupid, and they are right. T

wow interesting...so if i went to the french embassy....and ask to be brought home to france...they'd give me a free trip??? damn....cause i am a citizen of france but i havent ever been there.... im a citizen due to my dad...we know i am cause i was drafted at age 18 by france/

There is no country called West Africa, in fact there are 16 countries in the geographical area known as west africa. As for the scam, I know it is a common one, but it just kinda irks me when people think we are too stupid to realize this...

You should engage them in lengthy e-mail conversations... Tell them you will send your privte yacht "la Amistad" to pick them up, give them a "Western Union Payment # short one digit then when they say there is a missing digit say "Oh Its an 8" but dont tell them where it goes so you can make them go to Western Union a half a dozen times... Tell them you are a priest named father Ben Dover and that Father Lechter and Father Dahmer cant wait to have them for dinner etc... Then once you have had enough fun - gather up all your e-mails and send them to http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/ to have them published! I love fucking over those nigerian scammers and a few of mine are on that site [:D]

I just think it is funny when someone claims to be a US citizen and then has a problem going to the Embassy for help.
