To some degree, I beliegve the age (as in old age) factor comes into play in some ethnic or social areas where it is of no importance in others where older folk are treated better and still as being valuable humans. In my personal exsperience here in Australia, where the national culture worships youth and all things young and either ignors or disgards thise disabled or are baby boomer age or older, I have all but slammed my doors shut as far as participating in the local scene other than as a social bystander..  (Not just in this sub culture but in many other areas too..) We were once the lucky country where the elderly were respected, not we are a country of mediocrity.

I think if one is feeling a sense of loss of interest or excitement in things that previously provided pleasure, then it's more likely that depression or illness may be the cause.  The nature of my sexuality and individual identity matures as I grow older, but my need for the elements referred to as BDSM grows and refines rather than diminishing. A sense of hoplessness, restlessness, questioning is more an indication that life needs more meaningful activites in it.  Depression feeds itself, and insists on the very torpor which is at the root of the problem.  Adding consistent phsyical expercise to life increases endorphines and is a great way to begin.  Finding a vareity of creative outlets helps with feelings of  disappointment and frustration.  Sexual identity and practice may not be the problem here at all.  That's merely my opoinion and is undoubtedly barely worth the monitor upon which it was written.  You have my sincere hope that You find some enduring happiness and satisfaction.  And keep the faith, sex gets better with maturity!

IMHO I think that sexuality is still, on the whole, considred as a straight reproductive function by the many. IMO – if the appeal of BDSM lasts more than 2 years, you are stuck with it for life.  Seems like on average the rapture wears off after 2 years and the bittersweet flavor sets in.  Either you like that bittersweet aspect and you stay or you move on to where the “grass is sweeter”.
