therapists are human and as a result we have nerves that can be struck.

If this is the case, for whatever reason, he is responsible for sending you to another therapist. I suggest you discuss it with him in your next session. Ask him if he is not comfortable handling you as a patient.

Tell him how you feel. If you need to discuss this with him, then he needs to suck it up and either learn enough about it to help you or send you to see someone else.

My therapist knows but it rarely comes into question. It isn't a problem. What I focus on are other issues. She's met him briefly. But she says the relationship has helped me become stronger and that's the bottom line.

I love my therapist. He's really funny and makes a lot of jokes. But I always get uncomfy talking about D/s and anything sexual with him. LOL I worry what he thinks of me...and such...like he's going to think I'm a slut or something. Do you think being submissive is something I really need to talk with him about? He always makes jokes if I mention something about it...like says I should be a Domme...haha...

It's a small world, yes? Hi, Doll.

He shouldn't be making jokes about something you obviously wish to talk about. Get someone else, or ask him to stop making jokes. I know you're limited in your options, in regards to who you see.

hey! I know you! hehe [:)]

Technically this is transference...find out who it is that you really love........

He's really funny and makes a lot of jokes.
Whsat like excuse me whilst I slip into something a little more Freudian?

But I always get uncomfy talking about D/s and anything sexual with him.
He feels the same way for sure.

LOL
It's not a laughing matter.....especially if you are paying for the service......

I worry what he thinks of me...and such...like he's going to think I'm a slut or something.
Ambivalence....first he thinks you are a slut then he thinks you are a table.

Do you think being submissive is something I really need to talk with him about?
If you are asking permission even in your head then you are definitely a submissive.

He always makes jokes if I mention something about it...like says I should be a Domme...haha...
Yes because if you were a Domme you would be doing most of the talking...geddit?
[:D]

It looks to me as if this therapist has bought into the misguided American system of values that says everyone should strive to be a leader.  This hyper-competitive society has tried to market itself as a country where there are no followers and it has taken it's toll.  This is something worth taking issue over.. it should be established with this therapist that this misconception won't be tolerated.  I know you like him, but if he cannot get over this idea, find a new therapist.

Well that is my thought on the matter, anyway.

this girl would find a new therapist or bend him over the couch and show him what being a Domme is all about....[:D]

Something to consider is that therapy itself involves the use of and the investigation of personal power  in human relationships, both in our relation to ourselves as well as our relation to others.  A good  therapist empowers his/her patients by providing them ways to look at themselves with understanding in order that they may overcome limiting behaviors or whatever else is interfering with a general enjoyment of life and growth.  We move toward self-realization when we have the skills to do so. D/s is one way to achieve self-realization as many on this site will attest.  Because power is elemental in human relations, and because your submissiveness is a fundamental part  of who you are, it stands to reason that it is important in a therapeutic context.  If you cannot communicate well with your therapist as a whole person, then there are kink aware therapists who will treat you with a greater understanding of the complete person you present.  See the site for more information:
