I'm getting so dammed tired of the news media and all the polling they are doing.

"While many are still deciding who should be president, by 52 percent to 45 percent they would prefer having Obama than McCain to their summer cookout, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll released Wednesday".

This is what we get from 24 hour news channels, if there is no news just start creating it.

Welcome to the world of disposable news and throw away commentaries. I agree with you, it's a lot of drivel. My solution is to not watch television: it muffles quite a lot of the noise.

Funny you should mention that.  I just canceled my cable. There is nothing on TV worth the $90 per month they charge

Nope, it's not worth it - and the absence of television provides windows of opportunity to have all sorts of active, delicious fun  .

Maybe you could start a Poll to get a general consensus of how we feel about it.

Ha, I agree with you more than you do. To me it is not worth a set top box, even at $50 forever minus a $40 rebate. That means that I won't pay ten bucks to have TV forever.

A dandy little box I do have though puts the PC screen on the TV, so I can watch all those clips on a 36" Sony. Now that was worth fifty bucks.

Take a look sometime at how even the venerated Associated Press Poll results are achieved.  A 'sample' as small as 500 people -- chosen with little regard for assuring 'randomness' and viola!  this is what we all think.

Followed by a disclaimer in teeny-weeny type that the poll has a built in error rate of up to 10%.

welcome to the world of disposable sociology. there's a book that i want to pick up once my pay checks finally start coming it (this is the first job that i've ever had that i've had to wait over a month for my first pay check) that is supposed to point out ways to tell what's misused, deliberately misused, and just bad statistics. i want to get it for when/if i go back and get my doctorate so i can teach. i hate when people start throwing around random numbers as if the numbers mean something by themselves.

Oh I forgot to mention another amazing TV show... Meerkat Manor. This thing need an emmy award and it needs it fast. Basically you get to watch the life and times of a bunch of meercats, which are kind of like African Gophers. It is RIVETING! They dig holes, they stick their heads out of the hole, when a predator comes they go back in the hole... They eat, they fuck, they go to war with their neighoring band of meercats. Its like watching the Sopranos - except the main charectors are covered in fur and have fleas....

I shouldnt reveal this, but as many of you know I live on Galveston Bay...  I am pleased to anounce that I am currently in preproduction for my upcoming show - "Hermit Crab Haven" which will be filmed on location on the breakwater in my backyard. It will be MUST SEE TV! (and stay tuned for my second smash hit - Seagull Shangrila....

DA, If you're going to make a documentary series, could you do one on the Dog Shit Picker Upper? If not, could you call the folks and see if it could be put on "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowes?

Actually a recent neigborhood poll determined that my dog shit picker upper guy has a 78 point lead in this neighborhood over Banannarama in the november elections.  But yes, thats a great idea for a show - we can call it "Dog Turds - Houston" or "Houston, We Have A Poopie"  I mean my dog shit guy has to be at least as interesting as the Ice Road Truckers or the fucking Meercats. LOL

I have yet to understand why Ice Road Truckers is on the History Channel.  What the fuck does ice road trucking have to do with history?  Now they have the loggers on the History Channel; again WTF?  The crabbers are on the Discovery Channel!  I remember when the History Channel and the Discovery Channel used to have interesting programming.  A&E used to have really great programs too.  Now they have completely dumbed down those channels for the pro-wrestling crowd.

um...actually...10% is low to average (acceptable range is up to 25%)...and a 500 person sample is actually quite large...it matters if it's representative or not. a small representative sample is much much much better than a huge unrepresentative one.

bigger is not always better.
