ORIGINAL: Alumbrado Nobody gets this far by being a saint, I've already suggested that folks read Bill Bradley...but when you say 'Chicago politics', you are saying a whole lot more than slick land deals. Specifically, 'Chicago politics' is famous code for bribe taking as a corrupt city official, delivering votes from dead and alive voters, mysteriously 'missing' opponents and snitches, Teamsters payoffs, and so forth, leading to elevation among the players. And Obama either did not play that game, or somehow managed to erase all record of it. It looks like the only connection between him and the reputation of that city appears to be geographic... unless he likes the awful excuse for pizza they dish up there... Actually his ties go a bit further, while never holding an elected office in the city. The connections to Daley, Ayers, Rezko have been talked about, at least the tips of the iceburgs have been spotted. Connections to others like Stroger and the rest of the machine will probably be coming to light after the conventions, to counteract the usual bounce. I will be the first to admit there is no way to win a political office from Chicago, without getting your hands dirty, it's just the way things work. Be it an envelope containing fire extinguisher and elevator inspection tags over a beer, or the promising of a job or other favor while chewing a cheeseburger at the Billy Goat. It happens, it doesn't make it right, but it is the way things are done. People in the rest of the country think we are being funny with the old Chicago voting motto "Vote early , vote often", I wish it were a joke. I am a resident of Michigan now, and would not be surprised if I wind up casting a vote for Obama in my old southside Chicago precint this November. Well that is enough rambling on, I guess it is just that I was raised in and amongst that sort of thing that it doesn't shock me, like it does others.
