greetings ozzfan,

i think it's pretty much spot on - except for the whole part about how barack obama's first name only has one r, not two. i worry about mccain (and other republicans) who think that the problems in iraq (or elsewhere in the middle east) will be solved without even knowing the history or context, and the fact that shi'a and sunni divisions are still greek to them (including president bush up until recently) is a bit scary. i'm more shocked at the inequality in media representation, though - often media will jump down democrats' throats for their foreign policy, but mccain says he wants to take china and russia out of the g8 and it goes silent. (i'm not a fan of china and russia, but last i checked we don't necessarily want them going to war with us, either.)

eh, now i'm rambling. anyway, thanks for the read - i think it basically sums up how voters are splitting between these two candidates and does a pretty good job of it.

respectfully,
a'ishah.

c-span is the only source of info that- I seem to take seriously.

The candidates are going overseas this week- which I think is silly.  It implies that we will continue to not mind our own business and meddling will go on and on.  It disregards problems at home.

From a personal perspective- I am weary of all the doom, and Obama can offer hope.  Hope and sunshine/transparancy os something we need.

Tho- Ron Paul is the man that should get in.   Business wont let him.   It isnt rocket science- follow the money. Too much money is made by companies who have the hand in the collective till.

I dont know how we came to be so paranoid.   And the US version of history is so one sided.   On Iran the 444 days people recall- but go back further when we meddled by installing the shaw.   And on it goes.  If you track further back- it makes sense that a people would be unhappy with US.  We cant act irrational and expect the whole world to be rational.  It isnt about securiyt- it is about profits.   A companys bottem line gest dissed- the co complains to washington, follow the money.

The kicker is- and I am afraid it is too late in the game- is that globalists have no allegience to any people

So comrads of my tribe- and those around,  it seems we been hood wicked.   .  again.   gasp.

Hello.

Having lived in Chicago 25 years- I can say abit on the link. Obama is no angel.  Life if slick in Chicago. Politics are a sport there.
There is on Obama, scandal - tho to anyone familiar with Chicagoland, it is no big deal to that locale.

To be fair on Obama, he is being attacked from every angel,  this is late in coming but part of the drumbeat for bushes 3rd term.

I was disappointed with his comment on a supreme court ruling.   Being that Obama teaches/taught constitutional law- he should know the 3 branches are separate.  It was un-executive of him to add his opinion to the high courts ruling.

I do wonder if the racial thing will get in the way. America still IS a very racial place.  That is too bad- cause I do think his pragmatic decission style will be good.

McCain was a maverick.  I think he peaked around 2000.  He is more subdued- in my view.

I was thinking- suppose the dems take the white house and congress.   I wonder if we then will here we should not be nation building- ie anything to do with global concensus...  as it is against soveighnty.  duh- what changed in 7.5 years.

I  think when those unfamiliar wiht Obama - get to know him, his style is fairly direct.

One thing too- every president I recall has been pushed for left/right, so can he stand the heat?
flash to Chicago- and yes-  anyone who stomps there has some experience at heat.

As a vision- I view mccain as 'past", and obana as "future".

finally- if we cant get the president right, then it is time to outsource the position and add ceo compensation package- so that we may have representation.

regards-

You and popeye keep claiming that Obama is a product of the corrupt Chicago political machine, and that he is tainted by Daly et al.  But I can't find any record of him ever even holding office in the city of Chicago.

Would one of you please start providing some facts to back up this claim?  I consider it to be fiction, just like the Muslim terrorist slur.

Nobody gets this far by being a saint, I've already suggested that folks read Bill Bradley...but when you say 'Chicago politics', you are saying a whole lot more than slick land deals.

Specifically, 'Chicago politics' is famous code for bribe taking as a corrupt city official, delivering votes from dead and alive voters, mysteriously 'missing' opponents and snitches, Teamsters payoffs, and so forth, leading to elevation among the players.

And Obama either did not play that game, or somehow managed to erase all record of it.

It looks like the only connection between him and the reputation of that city appears to be geographic... unless he likes the awful excuse for pizza they dish up there...

Alum, I withdrew my post.

I must try not to confuse my hard times back there with the election, as they are 2 different things.   I apologize.

No apology neccessary, I appreciate the clarification...

And as I said, I'm sure that Obama did whatever was needed to get this far, just like all candidates are forced to...(except for 'Jeff' Johnson...)

Ok good.  The humidity, heat, and road fumes here have effected my breathing the past few days.  I can get into a rant, and sidetrack, fragment.   When I went downstairs I started to think I mis-spoke.

The land use topic is of interest- the Chicago lake front was set aside for the public and now some museum might build on it. I hope it does not happen.  The public space is one thing that very much enhances that skyline.  The fight should be interesting.

Actually his ties go a bit further, while never holding an elected office in the city.  The connections to Daley, Ayers, Rezko have been talked about, at least the tips of the iceburgs have been spotted.  Connections to others like Stroger and the rest of the machine will probably be coming to light after the conventions, to counteract the usual bounce.

I will be the first to admit there is no way to win a political office from Chicago, without getting your hands dirty, it's just the way things work.  Be it an envelope containing fire extinguisher and elevator inspection tags over a beer, or the promising of a job or other favor while chewing a cheeseburger at the Billy Goat.  It happens, it doesn't make it right, but it is the way things are done.  People in the rest of the country think we are being funny with the old Chicago voting motto "Vote early , vote often", I wish it were a joke.  I am a resident of  Michigan now, and would not be surprised if I wind up casting a vote for Obama in my old southside Chicago precint this November.

Well that is enough rambling on, I guess it is just that I was raised in and amongst that sort of thing that it doesn't shock me, like it does others.
