Hello...........

This is one of the plethora of reasons I have to say this :

It should be against the law to expose a child to religion of any kind until they reach the age of majority.

OTOH, AFAIK, Texas prohibits the use of Peyote in valid religious ceremonies by Native Americans. By upholding the practices of a white religious sect and denying the practices of a First nations religious sect, the State of Texas is affording special treatment to one particular religion, which is Unconstitutional.

That must be new.. since the 1970s, peyoteros in Texas could legally sell their harvest only to Native Americans who were members of a Native American Church, following federal AIRFA guidelines...
I thought some states had expanded that to also allow non-Indians to claim religious peyote use, but this is the first I've heard of the reverse policy you describe.

The Texas Supreme Court has ruled that a church can kidnap, restrain and abuse a person as long as it is part of their beliefs.

Can we bash Texas in general?  Or would that be a hijack?

* Texas's Criminal Court System and its administration of 'justice' especially with regard to the Death Penalty is a national disgrace.

* Texas executes more people than any other state.

http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/state/

* Texas has the largest geographical portion of the nation's border and the highest rate of illegal immigration.  Approximately 2 million illegal immigrants -- from a variety of nations -- now occupy Texas.

This is bad of me I know, but it is kinda fun.

You can bash Texas all you want but it will only make you look stupid in the eyes of those of us fortunate enough to live in the best state in the whole damned US of A.

We do indeed have the highest rate of executions, and following a court challenge we are back at it with a vengence and we will more than make up for the hiatus we took. Fact is, if you commit a capital crime in Texas - youre gonna die with a needle in your arm not from old age. We like it that way.

Our administration of justice isnt a disgrace, its the way things oughta be. A lot of crimes are settled without ever going to court because of our ready availability of guns, and our broad rights to self defense. Other crimes are solved in the streets, because our cops arent afraid to tune someone up or to blow their asses away... Texas justice is tough, which is the way we want it. Like that son of a bitch from Katrina who killed his kids on fathers day... Over in Lousiana he would have gotten 20 years and been out in eight. Here in Texas, hes gonna die... Probably before his trial... [:D] See, we believe in "integrating our jails" so hes gonna find himself sharing a pod with the AB, (Afterall we cant segregate inmates can we? That would be illegal...) So he will be lucky to make it to trial... If he does, he will be convicted and he will have a date with a needle in Huntsville...

As for the illegal immigrants, heres a little clue - we like it that way! Illegal aliens are cheaper than slaves. They are our answer to emancipation. We can get anything we want done for a paltry sum. I dont pick up my dogshit because I pay an illegal $5 a week to do it. I dont clean my house, do my laundry, or pick up my own groceries - because I pay a Mexican woman $50 to come twice a week and do everything from run my errands to wash my windows to wash and fold my boxers. I dont even make my own bed! [:D]  I can go to the overpass and hire a day worker for $100. Can you get your house painted for $100? Didnt think so. Can you sit on the back deck drinking beer with your buddies while watching your three page "honey do list" getting done for one Benjamin? [:D] Can you go get a hot lunch for $3.50 ???

We Texans are smarter than you think....

Well, technically you can, as long as you are willing to accept the needle that will be waiting for you after trial.

jlf1961 -> RE: Get of Texas while you still can (6/29/2008 5:34:36 PM)

With the exception of New York, Mass, and California, every state in the union has a 'crime of passion' rider on the murder charges.

What this means is, that if a person comes home and catches their spouse in bed with another person, he or she would not be guilty of murder if they killed the two at that very moment, because it was a crime of passion.

Texas has a bit more strict protection of life and property law, basically you have to wait for the armed intruder to completely enter the home before you blast him out of his socks.

The self defense law stipulates that you can use what ever force is necessary to protect yourself from injury as long as you were not the person that was the aggressor.

As for the fact the state has the longest continuous border with Mexico and the highest number of illegal aliens crossing said border, I have to ask, why then are the employers who hire illegal aliens located in New York, Chicago and California?  They wouldnt cross the damn border if there was not some person willing to hire them at substandard wages.

Now, as to the use of the death penalty in Texas.  Yes we have executed more criminals in the state than any other.  The average length of time one serves on death row is less than five years.  However, the death penalty has been handed down in New York at a rate of 3 to1, California at a 1 to 1 rate, as well as several other states.  However the inmates on death row in those states can expect to stay on death row as long as twenty years.

Furthermore, the state of Texas will cover the cost of an appeal by a court appointed attorney, up to and including appeals to the supreme court.

In the State of Texas, you can be charged with capital murder (murder in the first) if you kill a law enforcement officer, a child, or anyone in during the act of committing a felony crime, rape with murder, child molestation with murder.

There is no option on the punishment for capital murder, it is an automatic death sentence.

Now, bash Texas all you want, but you know, at least in Texas we are not afraid to deal with criminals in as efficient manner as possible.

However, attempted capital murder will include all of the above which does not result in death and that is a mandatory life without parole.

Vendaval -> RE: Get of Texas while you still can (6/29/2008 7:01:22 PM)

Level,

I have no argument with most mainstream religions that are live and let live.  I know many good hearted people of a variety of faiths and non-believers too.  How a person acts and lives their daily life is the true test of their character.

The shit that irritates me is "casting out demons" on people who question authority and speaking in tongues while listening to Jimmy Swagert music and cleaning the house and burning the unmentionables Star Wars bedsheets because....DARTH VADER IS SATAN!!! [sm=hewah.gif]

Seriously, dude.

PS - Level, unfortunately this type of situation still happens.  It happened to a young lady who was a friend of mine.  And the relatives I avoid like the plague?  This is their type of religious behavior.

Vendaval, then I would avoid them too; I'm a Christian and glad of it, but let's just say that many of my brethren and I don't see things the same on a number of subjects.

Termyn8or -> RE: Get of Texas while you still can (6/30/2008 9:22:22 AM)

Texas also knowingly executed an innocent Man about 20 years ago. New eveidence was produced that completely cleared him, but it was presented after their deadline (boy that takes on a whole new meaning now) and they fought it all the way to the supreme court.

I am all for executions, but not of the innocent. And there is a stopgap in place to stop such injustices, and that is a governor's pardon or commutation of a sentence. When you have a human being in the governor's chair this works, but the governor at the time who let the execution take place knowing the Man was innocent was.............

How many guesses do you want ?

George W Bush.

I like execution and believe we need more. Any murderer or rapist, a few others, but DAMMIT, only if they are guilty. You can bitch all you want about felons getting out of it on a technicality, but when a governmental body takes the life of an innocent person on a technicality it is just plain wrong.

Vestonika -> RE: Get of Texas while you still can (6/30/2008 9:33:53 AM)

The other day the supreme court slapped down the idea that rapists should be killed, executed, murdered by the state. (unless they killed the rapee)... I think that's a valid decision. For the court to have made death the penalty for rape would certainly influence rapists to kill their vicitms, cause if your gonna get snuff'd for raping someone, why leave them their life so they can identify you?

All this "pitchfork & flame torches" knee-jerk, death-speak by ill-educated idiots with their stupid opinions required a swift kick in the butt from the Supreme Court. Now to make the death penalty mandatory for EVERY crime... that would be cool!!!!
