Is ponyplay edgeplay? It seems tame to me compared with some of the intense floggings I've received from Dommes during general BDSM play (while shackled bent over a wooden horse or locked onto a St. Andrews cross, for examples). Ponyplay seems almost gentle compared to those experiences. Even when I've been whacked with the whip during pony training, it was fleeting, and only to enforce a command (it works every time!) But I know experienced hard-core players who can take lots of pain and love things like having candle wax dripped all over their genitals, hard floggings & whippings, severe bondage, sensory deprivation and more (and have even appeared in videos doing this), who turn away shyly and shake their heads when asked to try some ponyplay. Why would that be? Is ponyplay that "out there" compared to other kinds of kinky play? If so, why?

I see it kind of like age play... some people don't want a babygirl/boy and others don't want a pony. If I was a domme I know I'd want a full-on human that would scream and react like a human to pain, but to each their own, you know?

yes but you would have to pony to understand that. i don't mean to be obtuse, truly i don't, but to pony deeply, to go to the core of pony space, to disappear as a human, and to become an animal, it is very edgy.... from the outside i could see how some folks would find it not so, but when you shape shift in to other dimensions, when cross the boundaries and expectations of being in human form, you open the door to the primal self where anything can happen. most pony play that i have seen is dress up play, and that sexy yummy but not edgy per say....however there is a place that a pony can go beyond that where you can feel every ripple of the wind on your tender hide, where you can smell the fresh grass two fields away, and where the wild calls your soul to run.

Pony play is not edge play, but it is a niche for roleplay that some do not like. Just like age play, puppy play and other character-needed play types, there are just some people who arent into it. I dont get much out of animal play, regardless of the animal. To each their own, of course, but it doesnt do anything for me. DV

There are taking things to extremes and edgeplay. Ponyplay is nothing I'd consider all that crazy on the edge.

Anything can be edgeplay- depends on how risky you make it and how inherently risky for that particular person it is. Someone afraid of horses, it could be really freakin edgy for them. But it is not generally conglomerated in the "always high risk" types of kinky play most people associate as edge play.

Edgeplay is expanding your limits....usually soft limits but limits non-the-less....if you like it, they are no longer soft limits to you..... There is a high risk of a vet shoving a hand up your backside if he mistakes you for a real horse. I'd actually question the credentials of a vet that was unable to spot a genuine horse though. It’s more hedge play than edge play IMHO.[8\|] edited: to include some humbility.

It depends on the person. One man's edgeplay, is another's warmup. If you have serious issues with having your human identity taken away from you, or have problems with playing in this way, outside, and possibly in public, then yes, it could be edgeplay... But being an aspiring ponyboy myself, the few times I've been in that situation, and in that role, (usually during pride parades) I've found it to be exhilerating!

Isn't edge play defined as something physically dangerous though? Could be dangerous if ponypeople pulled a cart through a rough neighbourhood but I fail to see any other real dangers? It's not like the hoofs are nailed onto your feet.
