Tend to but not always. Daddy has one that's small. Cooks about 4 servings of rice.

There are a few friends that have them, and love them. Rave about them lol.
So I guess it depends on your level of rice cooking and comfort zone. They tend to take up a lot of room too.

Fuzzy Logic is a brand? I thought it was a kitchen gadget which used quantum computing technologies gleaned from the wreckage of the Rosswell starship crash.

A rice cooker is great for heating soups, stews or making rice and grain based meals in a single, untended pot. Add olive oil, veggies, meat or fish - whatever you like - push cook and 20 minutes later return to find dinner ready. It's best if you catch it at the 10 minute mark and give it a stir once the rice has started to cook though.

I don't have any problems cooking rice. I don't ever use that instant stuff, I buy huge burlap sacks of the stuff.
Make sure you rinse your rice off.
Don't lift the lid!

Yeah, I'll buy at least 10 pounds at a time of some varieties. Love rice. Right now I have aged Basmati, Idli (also India), Forbidden (black), Bhutanese Red, Jasmine, Texmati, Lundgren organic brown, Carneroli, Arborio, Asahi, Thai sticky, and just plain old Louisiana long grain.

Like to cook some rices with coconut milk or grated coconut (try grated coconut, grated carrot, and a bit of butter added after cooking the rice. Tasty). Also with some fresh grated ginger or galangal.

It's the only grain which doesn't produce gas. [&:]

That's not true. I have a microwave rice cooker...

I said that microwave rice cookers cost about $15 US, and make rice just fine... what is 'not true' about that?

Greetings Alumbrado,

This part: "they will all produce plain rice suitable for gunking up with soup...[:D] " which i took to mean they result in mushy rice. I apologise if i misunderstood you.

be well,

The OP said they really liked rice mixed with soup...which in my experience works better if the rice is cooked properly.
All I was saying was that an in expensive cooker could do that too.

housesub4you -> RE: Fuzzy Logic Rice Cookers? Opinions? (6/27/2008 4:54:00 AM)

So it takes 20 minutes to cook in a rice cooker.  That is the same amount of time it takes in a normal pot.

I never use one, a friend of mine has one and believe it or not you can screw up rice in it.  At least she has.

I agree with the Olive Oil, I also use broth instead of water, and add whatever seasons I want to the rice as it cooks.

I also cook enough so the next day I can make Fried Rice.

I have one and honestly don't use it much.  But when I do it works great.  And  I agree with Katy you should look on amazon.com for it cheaper

I love my rice cooker.  It was a gift, so I didn't pay for it.  It doesn't look like it coasts $100.

KLRDan -> RE: Fuzzy Logic Rice Cookers? Opinions? (6/29/2008 3:30:49 AM)

I spent $180 on the Zojirushi "Neuro Fuzzy" rice cooker three years ago and have used it about every other day since then. It was definitely worth the money. Somebody earlier said cooking rice isn't that difficult, but it always has been for me.

OMG i didn't realize Fuzzy Logic is a brand.  I thought the OP was referrring to his logic being fuzzy in making this decision. LOL[sm=banghead.gif]

I'll join you at the headbanging wall - my thoughts were running along the same lines.
