LacedCorset -> Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 10:36:18 AM)

With the new movie "Quid Pro Quo" coming out talking about the a man being disabled since he was 8 years old and discovering there was a world of people afflicted with a desire to be disabled. It started me to worry. I have noticed over the years there has been a rise of disabled or injurred men that are in the lifestyle claiming they are doms/masters. I never have participated with them for in my mind you must be functional in everyway possible.

There are two reasons for this post.
   1. Is there are a desire by others in the lifestyle to be disabled?
   2. Am I the only one that recognizes the rise of disabled beings in the lifestyle?

mistoferin -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 10:42:31 AM)

No, I haven't noticed any rise in the numbers of the disabled. Do you feel that disabled people can not be a part of this lifestyle? Why do they have to be able to function in every way?

disabled beings

i wonder if you are intentionally trying to insinuate that a disabled person is less than human by describing them as "beings".. i for one find this description offensive.

Are you trying to suggest also that a disability makes any one such of those among us less of a Dom/me or sub/slave? Because it sure sounds that way..

1. I'm sure there are, but I seriously doubt that it's a large number.  Who would want to be disabled?  There's a huge difference between a dom who's disabled and active and a dom who wants to become disabled.

2. I haven't noticed a rise.

As to your last sentence before your questions...a very limiting way of thinking.

LC,

Perhaps you have not noticed but war in any measure generates a surge in the numbers of disabled. Societal attitudes have not yet caught up with effectively dealing with those that fought and lost a limb or two,

Activity and to some degree acceptance is found on the net, where the disabilities casrry little weight. Because their bodies have been hurt their minds are still operative.

And that may be your opinion but not every one holds that to be true. Being a Dominant or not does not hinge on not being disabled.

this statement in and of itself tells me that you can't function as freely as you think you do-- by placing such a severe limitation on your pool of potential partners you're running the risk of alienating the person that is your best fit, as well as just flat out pissing off people who could be strong friends.

functionality comes in a wide range forms. abilism is in and of itself a form of disability. but that's another thread.

CruelDesires -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 10:58:59 AM)

I would rather have a relationship with someone who is physically disabled but of sound mind, then with someone who has a closed mind and a fully functioning body.

As far as your first question if taken literally, ..

who would 'desire' to be disabled?  that lost me.

and for the second question..maybe if you have 'disabilities' on your mind then that is what you seem to notice most?

DMFParadox -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 11:00:19 AM)

Haven't noticed a rise in 'disabled' participants, so much as an increased awareness across the board.  You're going to see the full spectrum.

Lynnxz -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 11:01:09 AM)

I haven't noticed a rise, then again I haven't been around too long. To me, disabilty really isn't a problem unless you use it as a crutch for something... although I did turn down a dominant in a wheelchair who wanted to suspend me at a play party. I figured it really just wasn't in my best interest, but I don't have anything against the guy.

Funny that.. Master just said He would rather have a slave with a bad back than a bad attitude.

If you don't limit "functional" to the strictly physical, I doubt there is anyone in the world who is "functional in every way possible."

Goodness.
I find your post incredibly offensive.

So where do you draw the line for the word disabled?
A man with a hearing aid cannot be a dominant or a master?

There is not a rise in disabled peoples unless you count those coming out of the military. It is because those people labeled disabled are more able to participate in life today than ever before.

LacedCorset -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 11:09:05 AM)

Yes did you not read the first part of my actual post....the movie Quid Pro Quo....is of a disabled man that discovers a perverse world of people that desire to be disabled..... That is where all of this stems from

And as far as my preference to people being disabled and me not wanting to participate....that is my decision. All it is is a preference.

Madame4a -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 11:10:23 AM)

wow .... just wow...

how do you define disabled?  my guess is, there is something about you that someone would find disabled (do you wear glasses?  are you overweight? have asthma? how about diabetes? a little depression now and then)... then what?

are you no longer functional?

wow amazing

to answer the actual question, yes there are individuals who will attempt to amputate parts of their bodies in order to become 'disabled'. i forget what the term is. however it is extremely rare though the numbers aren't well known because so many people aren't able to actually go through with it.

camille65 -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 11:12:58 AM)

Yes I did read your post in its entirety.
Ironically the post below of yours says something about you that more than a few would consider to be a form of disability. From this thread:

I'm a BBW but I was a sub way before I was big. I have no insecurity over my size and no drama. Maybe it that you have met the wrong people. My role I participate in is through sure pleasure and joy.

I have heard so many stories about the BDSM lifestyle that subs are this way because of their childhood and the way they were treated....Well that might be true for some and I hope they are getting therapy for it. But putting all people into a stereotype isn't helpful. Be aware there are alot more people out there then the little world you live in.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 11:13:48 AM)

Disabled BEINGS?  Dang.

There is a subculture of folk who are into amputation, and that sort of thing, but I would not fling them under the lifestyle umbrella.

LacedCorset -> RE: Quid Pro Quo (6/24/2008 11:14:21 AM)

If you haven't noticed a rise maybe you should talk to the people in this area. I have found that many people are injurred from a worker's comp injurry and have been on there for over 3+ years....others have had other kinds of injurries. Maybe its my area because Louisiana isn't known for being that good of a state. But how come I have chatted with several and the outcome is practically the same.
