Status: offline 		Neil Schon is a great guitarist. Too dam good for Journey. Neil should have been laying down some metal licks, some where else instead of doing that light aluminum.  Journey is a alright jock rock band though.

Status: offline 		FR:  I never really got "Journey".  They are now a cliche -- instant nostalgia band for TV shows like the Sopranos and Scrubs.   And they are responsible for the piano hell song that every 15 year old can play --  dum dum dumda dum dum dum dumda dum  dum dum dumda dum dum dum dumda dum    "JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL..."  arrrrgh.  It has become to pianists what "Stairway to Heaven" is to guitarists.

For the Schon fans: he did an album with Sammy Hagar, Kenny Aaronson, and Mike Shreve, called HSAS. Good stuff, IMO.

Rumour has it that it's Neil Schon that pushed the heavy touring to make the money that caused the band to break up. I know they toured fairly extensively and repeatedly - I saw them multiple times in the late 70's/80's. Yes, I love them, still do. Some of my favourite songs are Journey tracks. But I would rather they have taken some time off to relax and re-energize and still be together than fall apart like they did.

Status: offline 		I don't know what happened, LR. But I agree, I'd have liked to have seen them hang in there. On one of the recent TV appearances, Schon talked briefly about how they WERE going to reunite with Perry, but that he needed hip surgery (I think), but kept putting it off.... so they finally found this new guy.
 
Schon says that Perry won't even return his phone calls now.

Status: offline 		I like Steve Perry, (and I loved Oh, Sherry!) I guess because I am more of an 80's fan then 70's, I prefer their 80's stuff.  Especially Seperate Ways. (yeah yeah I know, classic cheeze puff rock, but it made my wee little heart go piddypat!)

Status: offline 		no steve perry is like zepplin with no  plant and page, the stray cats with out setzer etc . Journeys first 3 albums  were the best pre infinity  though i dig infinity and evolution .. when they had randy jackson it was a low point .next i shall have to pop in some wisked lester ..

Check out a band he put together after Journey called "Hardline." Great band. Hard rock stuff. Smoking guitar.
I don't know if there was more than one album, but I have the first release, called "Double Eclipse." If you can find it, it's worth the search.
Bad English was pretty good too. More along the lines of Journey, (In fact, J. Cain and D. Castronovo were in that band too.) but I've always loved John Waite's voice.

Oh wow, I remember Hardline.  They had three CD's - "Double Eclipse,"  "II," and then a Live one.  I had Double Eclipse (it's currently with my stolen music collection) and forgot all about it till now.  I had some Bad English, too. I liked John Wait.

Both can be found on iTunes, as I just discovered.  :)

Mike Shrieve was the youngest performer at Woodstock. His intro for "Soul Sacrifice" is fantastic. The firts and second albums showed promise. Then Journey became "Gerbil" with that Steve Perry weenie and Punk Rock was invented as a corporate rock protest; none too soon, either, after the twin sonic insults of Disco and Urban Cowboy shit.

That's the way I understood it... nobody was buying the hot guitar stuff except guitar players...

Pretty much the same decision Blue Oyster Cult and Foghat made... forgo the good stuff, go pop and get rich quick, or stick to the early niche and be 'starving artists'.

An aside; Travers was the first concert I ever saw, they were with Rainbow.
 
I didn't care that much for Hardline, but it deserves a second listen, I imagine.
