So, I know a few same sex kink couples coming to Cali within the next week or so to marry.  Anyone coming to California to get married?  Know friends who are?  Have any thoughts on this at all?

Same sex divorces will start next week.

Actually as much as I do really think that these couples have given it more thought, it is still only a matter of time for anyone. Almost anyone. They have lived without lawyer bills and alimony for so long, and now they want to screw it all up.

To each their own I guess.

For some it is probably well thought out and might actually last, then others suddenly enabled will jump into it. I could see a brand new court TV show in the works right now.

Like I said, be careful what you ask for.

i would hardly call allowing same sex couples the same benefits allowed to hetero married couples as screwing it all up.

If I may;  this is an item to consider.

Last time around the federal social security office- singled out counties etc for possible voiding of social security benefits.   Ild be cautious on this "marriage" item, as the SS is not hashed out.

as to the happy couples I am happy for them, and with them well.

I think it's great. Wish more states would welcome same sex couples. Some friends of mine are getting married in september, and they're making it as legal as possible, but the judge for one woman's name change was all sorts of difficult about it. They eventually went to a different county and gave the judge there a different reason.. it's so stupid to make such a fuss, just let them marry whoever they want! It's an economic stimulus for the wedding industry, those overpriced sons of bitches are probably clapping their hands gleefully right now about all their new customers. And maybe they'll help those abysmal marriage statistics out.

I see it as a big step forward for California, if not the States as a whole. I have Bob Dylan singing in my head.

Warmest wishes to the happy couples. Gestures like this and messages of support are much more meaningful than any message of hatred.

There is no residency requirement to obtain a marriage license in California, but there is a six-month residency requirement for divorce.

Some cities are now refusing to perform civil ceremonies, because they THINK they will be overwhelmed with new applicants.  Bakersfield has been in the news, because the city clerk (or whoever had the authority to make the decision), decided last week that they would stop performing civil ceremonies once gay marriage is legal. 

Certainly seems like a personal bias to me, as it would be prudent to see how much activity actually occurred in your location, and THEN stop doing them if there was more traffic than you could handle.

perhaps if you would answer this for me, since i'm behind on the news:

if all those people go to california for the marriage, is their marriage only valid or seen as valid in that state; and will federal tax returns acknowledge it?
