Thank you for the links Lockit. I actually went back and looked at my email again. Although the foot binding and the outrageous shoes from Japan were in the same message, there was a line that said around the same time as the Geisha, these women were binding their feet. Your links give more info if anyone wants to check it out, including the complete story straight from the mouth of the woman whose feet were posted here. I found this part particularly interesting: Certainly the "three-inch golden lotuses" were seen as the ultimate erogenous zone, with Qing dynasty pornographic books listing 48 different ways of playing with women's bound feet. As I said before, Japanese women ARE still considered rather submissive compared to women in the western culture. This is not a myth or a generalization, it's a fact. Lockit has graciously provided a link to this information as well. Japanese women are fighting hard to be recognized equal to men, but they are not there yet. It's still a struggle for them unless they become "Americanized." The Aisian women you see here in the United States are far different than their counterparts back in Japan. I was stationed on Guam back in the early 80's and it was a very popular vacation destination for the Japanese. The American dollar was weakening and the price of products on Guam were more in line with the cost of products in the US. 'They would come over in large groups, buying up all kinds of designer purses and clothes that were too expensive back in their own country. I watched the way they interacted with each other. As Air Force personnel, we were also allowed to take free "hops" to Korea and Japan (among other destinations). I've been there, done it, have the T-shirt. NOW THEN, I'm sorry if people were confused about the foot binding going on in Japan instead of China where it really happened , but it was hardly worth all this fuss. Everything else I said was correct and as I mentioned before, I would probably have straigtened this out sooner if I hadn't been in bed sick after I originally posted this. Mistress Scarlet
