You basically, perhaps unwittingly, tried to make the case for Japanese women being 'a bit submissive' (a contentious point, at best) by illustrating it with footbinding which is a) a Chinese custom and b) one that has been banned for close to a century. I realise you were doing it for fun, but fun doesn't have to take the guise of information. Look at the way the first few posters reacted to your original post, with indignation, because they were misled into thinking that Japanese women are submitted to atrocious torture and footbinding...

It propagates prejudice and misinformation. If you see nothing wrong with that, I see no point in arguing over this any further.

Corsets arose far earlier than the XIXth Century. I think people thought nothing of binding tiny tots into them at a seriously young age, but this merits some research. Have you heard of XVIth Century iron corsets? We're horrified by these traditions because they're so foreign to us: I bet you the Chinese are disgusted by some of our ways as well. One people isn't better than another.
