Termyn8or -> RE: Techy Stuff i Want or Don't Want (6/14/2008 1:49:11 PM)

pink, it all leaves me cold. All I really want is a HUGE harddrive and a cloning program that will work FOR ME, or someone to do it. That way I can start downloading again. BTW an ipod is a digital recorder an plays like a portable CD player, thing is, when you buy it, it is empty. I've never had one because I am not a music addict, I like music but I see no reason to take it with me. I could probably load an ipod for you, I DO have the material. Some surpass me but my collection is extremely diverse. People come and ask me to burn a CD for them and if I don't really know I ask how old they are and what type of music they like. I almost always come up with something that, when it starts they say "God I haven't heard that in years, I want it". I have songs that would blow your mind. I don't mean they are radical, they may have been hits or near hits at one time, but see little or no play these days even on the oldies stations, well here, the oldies station. And alot of the stuff they play is not that old IMO. Lack of a Syrius radio, and ipod can plug into your car stereo or modulator and you can have good tunes as you drive. Instead of like when you burn a CD you can remove something from a playlist and replace it with something else in a jiffy. With a CD it would require burning the whole CD again. Also the data in an ipod never gets scratched :-) If you ever get one I'll load it for you. Some people, in fact many, have more songs than I do, but I don't think anyone has quite the diverse collection that I have. The Syrius radio, you can usually get a package that allows you to take it in the house and hook it up to your regular stereo. If you don't drive alot, that is the way to go. Plus once your car is setup for a Syrius addon radio, it is also equipped for the ipod. They should be cheap by now, they are now primitive as far as I am concerned. Buddy of mine shows up with a Zoom player. It does videos. Plugs it into the front video jacks on my TV and there is a music video. It has an OSD, menu, all that. He usually just uses it for audio with headphones, but it can do movies, videos, clips, whatever. They are about $300. A simple ipod should be alot cheaper. You are a Woman, so at least have a cell for emergencies. With these winters it could save your life. Any other features are garbage to me. A cell with a camera is a waste of time unless you can upload decent resolution pictures somewhere to be retrieved on your PC later. If you want that, you are better off with a digital camera. We got a 5.2 megapixel for like a hundred bucks and a one gig memory stick for quite cheap. You just plug it into the USB port and boom, you got the pics stored. If you got a CD burner you can burn a photo CD and have a photo shop make it into real pictures. In that case you are not pigeonholed into set sizes of rolls of film. You can leave the defective pictures out, you can also fix them up a little bit first in case they are a bit too dark or light, sharpen the blurry ones, fix the color if you know what your doing. I can show you how to do this. Then you burn the CD and take it in and you are paying for pictures that are all good. And once you clear the memory, everything is stored so you can get more shots in before taking it in. There also may be places that let you upload the photos in JPG format and will make prints out of them. And digital memory does not expire like photographic film. The last disposable camera I bought got lost it before I could fill it. No sense looking for it, I am sure it has expired. With our digital camera, it only runs off of AA batteries. Gotta pull the thing out every once in a while, if the batteries are getting low, replace them. But keep them around to use in remote controls and those cheap clocks. But other than that there is no maintainence. Actually just buy regular flashlight batteries and don't put them in. They will have the longest shelf life, but they won't run the camera as long. If you plan on taking a bunch or pictures put some good alkalines in it. I think a cellphone with a camera would be the wrong way to go, I think most of the time it will be hard to really do anything with the pictures. But really it all turns me off. I need nothing. I am happy with my old toys, so Santa, if you're out there, save the money and get some kids some BOOKS. However, certain things do save you money like digital cameras and ipods, if you use them. If you can handle it, use the PC for media. Why have disks when there is a better way ? Even disks, like I said I could load an ipod and you'd have the songs in the order you want, and you can change it at will. I could burn you CDROMs with probably 100 songs each and at home in your spare time you could reload the thing yourself, or just add/replace tracks. Notice I did not mention a DTV converter, I simply don't need one. I got this dandy box for fifty bucks that puts the PC screen on the TV, just set er to full screen and let it go. No ghosts, no interference, no messing with antenna or rabbit ears, no nuthin, it just works. I'll download what I want. So I just don't need the box. I only want the technology that will make my life easier in some way, not more bells and whistles. At least that's my slant on it. T
