I am seriously considering getting a Blackberry or a PalmCentro or some other type of phone that will allow me to access the web. I am visiting my Uncle in about 3 weeks, and I would LOVE to have this service so I can "stay connected"![:D] I am not going to visit CM on his computer! I know next to nothing about this. I have a great phone plan, and I usually don't use even half of my minutes so they could easily go towards my web usuage. Are these devices easy to use? Hard to use? Does anyone here access CM via one of these devices? Any recommendations on what to buy? I can't imagine the temptations of always having web access! Thanks in advance.

Don't you have to pay a monthly fee for a web subscription (in addition to your other services, such as texting?) Or does it run solely off your allowable minutes?

I have been with my service provider that begins with an S for 9 years. They have dozens of plans, and I can easily switch. It might cost me $30-$50 more a month, but I think it would be worth it and a LOT cheaper than paying for wireless access on a Laptop. This way, I can wait a while before I even think about buying a Laptop. All I have now is my desktop, I need mobility. I think many people are using these devices, instead of Laptops for simple messaging.

Blackberrys are pretty things, I'm jealous. I can't justify the expenditure, otherwise I'd have one myself.

Well, Katy I am going to visit my Uncle In San Francisco in 3 weeks. He never had children, and he is paying for my flight. Using his frequent flyer miles. If you're going to access the web, be really clear about the platform (or whatever, my tech speak is useless) they use.. and if you need something different, how much it will cost... I use a similar device but the way it accesses the web sucks -- it doesn't support cookies, which means sites like this are not easy to access.. that said, I can get email just fine...

THIS is what I needed to know. If I can't access sites like CM, what fun is the damn thing? I can read my email on HIS computer,anywhere, even the library. Ugh, I might have to get an inexpensive laptop.

I am using using a blackberry right now actually. It functions just fine, though I have my browser set to emulate "pocket IE." That seems to eliminate the cookie issue. (It must, since I'm posting this now)

The person I've been speaking to regularly here, uses an iPhone. He is able to send me messages via his phone and I can read them just fine (though his name appears in a different color when he uses his phone). I'm not certain if he has access to the forums but I imagine he does. Additionally, I have no idea how it functions ...lol. I could ask him for more details if you don't find the answers to your questions.

I have a blackberry and at least on the service I use (At&t) I can get to the internet pretty quickly and accessing my email is rediculously easy. My thumbs still get tired if I write a long email, but you do get used to it pretty quickly. Collarme's main page looks kinda wonky on a blackberry screen, I know that collarme made some special pda/blackberry page but I can't remember what it is for the life of me. Collarchat is much more user friendly on a blackberry, so that should be fairly easy. If you have a laptop there are great deals on air cards which make it possible to access the internet through a card plugged into your laptop and the plans are somewhere around $40 a month. Separately, if you have a laptop and an internet plan through your phone you can just connect to your phone through your laptop (via bluetooth) and get on the internet that way. C~ Edited to add: If you have a macintosh, the blackberry software that allows you to sync your calendar and other types of tools to your computer doesn't work.

You can fix the wonky look by altering the "type" of browser your blackberry emulates. (Under browser options.)

Trust me guys, check your browser settings. The cookie thing is easily resolved. To post here, you have to make sure java support and java popups are enabled.

Mia, I use a Blackberry Pearl (as of yesterday) and LOVE it. Prior to that I used the 7130. You need a data plan package to access most of the blackberry's capabilities, but with a lil figuring out, it's awesome. You can even use the phone as a broadband modem when you do get your laptop.
