Pretty much.
We need to get over our insecure selves and quit puffing up to try to make something relatively mundane and boring seem exciting and superior.

Seriously,it's not better. Just different.

IMHO, those of us who are in or desire a BDSM type of relationship tend to be very open minded as a whole.  The "your kink isn't my kink but I accept it" sort of thing.  I think the vanilla world, there is more pressure from outside influences and ideas as far as how the relationship is supposed to go and to follow accepted norms.  I feel in kink relationships, there is already a certain thumbing of the nose at standard society.  I guess you could say it's like a giant buffet with the kinksters, you can sort of pick and choose, which perhaps might make some choosy.   With a vanilla relationship, at least from my experience, if two people start "committing" to each other, than they start on the path of making a presentation to the outside world to show a certain conformity.   It's easier for conformists to conform, than it is for non conformists to kind of take a page out of their book when it comes time to entering a relationship.

I think it's just you, taking the opinions of others much too seriously.  Some people like to claim that things are complex, so that they can appear knowledgable.  But I think a relationship is a relationship, BDSM or not.  And I don't think the BDSM community knows any more about it than anyone else.
