sorry and here i was trying to not be frustrating to people, but i was mearly talking of the stereotype of a male Dom outfit,  just as you have stereotypical female Dom outfits and submissive outfits. yeah the leather shirt and trousers and all that jazz, i wasnt trying to be offensive, but i do maybe the men are more visual theory works well.

MstrTiger -> RE: Fashion question (6/10/2008 10:21:54 AM)

I don’t think it has anything to do with straight male subs having any interest at all in fashion, that seams to go against the grain somewhat. I think it could be that men are more inclined to have fetishes for clothing than woman are? Also generally speaking men are supposedly more stimulated by the aesthetic aspect of eroticism than women.

bashfulhuck -> RE: Fashion question (6/10/2008 10:38:04 AM)

i don't need my Domina to be wearing anything in particular to know that She's the boss of me hehe.
That being said, i am a bit of a visual person, and a beautiful Lady wearing some sexy clothing will definetely get my attention.
i just don't need it in my day to day life, the clothes do not make a Dominant.
In my day to day life with my Domina, we just wore regular street clothing. i was never happier than when we would be lounging around the house dressed in sweats, with my head in her lap while we watched a movie. Not what one would call sexy, but if you were in the room with us, it was very obvious who the Dominant was and who the submissive was.

the basful one

i would go as far as to say that for many the traditional Male Dominant outfit is a turn off

What is the traditional Male Dominant outfit?

I'd say it's the leather shirt/leather pants with a studded belt and combat boots, bullwhip hanging on one hip and a chain on the other. I don't know how accurate that is but that's what comes to mind when I think about it.

i think Master would look delicious in an outfit like that, but i will never know. His play outfit is usually a tshirt and boxers.

A traditional dominnat outfit depends on where you reside in the country.  On the east coast it is usually black.
West coast its anything goes...as with the middle of the country.

If people can't be themselves and dress the way they would on a normal day...is it real when they dress up?

I think what she is trying to say is males are more visually oriented.  They go gaga over a woman dressed in leather.
Where a female looking at a man dressed in leather usually does nothing for them.

Myself, I'd just rather be with someone decently dressed for the occassion.  Whether that be shorts...be clean.  A tie or what have you.

A Male (or Butch Female) D-type in Levi's 501s, black leather chaps and a tight black (or white) tshirt..and black freshly shined boots...OMGGGGG ...  *wipes the drool from her chin...*

does it for me...every time!

Not the only "fashion" i like on a Dominant...b/c a Daddy in dress pants, button down shirt and tie...and wing tips...OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG....  *gets out the drool towel*

*off to ponder D-type Fashions....and dreammmmm..*

Sinimint -> RE: Fashion question (6/10/2008 5:08:04 PM)

I think I know what the OP means.

My partner looks absolutely gorgeous in his leather pants, which he usually wears with a dressy t-shirt.  He always looks hot.  He likes to dress me in fetish wear and I love dressing up too.

However, having said that - there are some male doms who should not ever wear leather pants, it's positively scary

DreamyLadySnow -> RE: Fashion question (6/10/2008 5:09:48 PM)

I have found that online men seem to expect that Dommes (real ones!) dress and act like the porn dommes they spend a lot of time looking at.
I haven't really seen that it carries over into real life that much unless they are just being quiet about it.

Skully7000 -> RE: Fashion question (6/10/2008 6:57:05 PM)

I don't particularly CARE what  you wear... but my fashion tips are as follows:

1) dress up!: if you are going out to an event. dress up. if you are just giong to get naked...sure who cares what you wear...but please at least put some thought into how you present yourself.

2) OWN what you wear! I don't mean that in the literal sense. if you are going to put leather chaps on you  better look Gay or look like a biker.. if you look like a Paul from the IT department except in a pair of chaps... you will look like an idiot.  its not the look for you. it doesn't matter what you wear just make sure  you can rock that style. make sure you own it.

3) While you shouldn't comprimise yourself...if you are going to a LATEX event...chances are there will be a shitload of latex. should you wear latex... YES. but what if you don't own any...or you look stupid in it... well find something that fits you. at the very least dress up. get creative. as long as you follow rules 1 and 2 you should be alright... showing up in a Tuxedo or nice suit...not a bad idea. throw in a fedora or a bowler hat...a cane some white gloves.. and you will look great at any fetish event. show up in a wrestling jersey and you look like an idiot.

4) Rules are made to be broken. but knowing When to break the rules is paramount.

Cheers
Skully

For the most part, men are visually stimilated, women are mentally stimulated. Of course, this isn't true to exclusion, but often these are the first things that create interest.

janigrey -> RE: Fashion question (6/11/2008 5:34:17 AM)

Honestly - The clothes don't matter.  I want the person, Domme, Dom to be wearing confidence. I want them dripping with confidence (better than sweat).  I want them to be clean - recently flossed, and wearing some sort of deodorant or anti-perspirant.
If wearing a  kilt makes t hem confident - encourage that - if they feel goofy in a kilt - suggest shorts.

As someone suggested here - black seems to be the color du jour at alot of events.  You can't really go wrong with that - but then you really don't stand out either.

I try to factor in my environment. If we're in a top floor dungeon that may or may not have air conditioning - we try to leave the leather at home and go for something fishnetty....

WhiplashSmile2 -> RE: Fashion question (6/11/2008 6:40:53 AM)

WTF is traditional Male Dominant outfit?  Black leather fetishwear from head to toe, you know like that dude "Machine" in the movie 8mm?  Perhaps more to what James Bond wore at times, the whole Tux thing?  Perhaps what studly Don Johnson wore in Miami Vice series?   Perhaps the type of things Sam Elliot wears?

I seem to be missing something here regarding traditional Male Dominant outfits.

I smell the scent of the Goth or Fetish wear creeping into the OP here.  The whole I've gotta wear black because it an expression of how much a person is an individual for following a crowd.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Fashion question (6/11/2008 7:03:14 AM)

Not every outfit works for every person. In the NY clubs I used to go to, I noticed that a lot of the dominants (male and female) were under the impression that all they needed was some black leather and an attitude and they were dominant.
Personally, I have always been more impressed by the dominants who were in tee shirts and jeans and knew what they were doing.
TFor those more interested in the visual stimulation than the actual submission, though, the black leather dom crowd did well, since they looked the part feven if they culdnt necessarily play it.

i would go as far as to say that for many the traditional Male Dominant outfit is a turn off, has anyone else noticed this or is it just due to my rather minimal experiance of male subs?
I think the same thing. The puffy pirate shirts, leather vests, and leather pants, etc do nothing for me. I once had a bunch of tickets to a comedy show and gave most of the away. One guy showed up in a leather puffy pirate shirt and pants....to a vanilla event.

The old LA social used to get up to somewhere around 200 people in the summer time. It would be a sea of people dressed in black. The running joke when someone was meeting up with you would be, "I'll be the one in black." Before we were together, Master and some of his friends decided to rebel and started showing up in Hawaiian shirts.

Master and his best friend tend to be into current fashion. When we're going to a party Master will dress like he's going to a nice dinner, sans tie. His best friend is more trendy.

So, it's not all male Doms, but I know what you're saying.

MidMichCowboy -> RE: Fashion question (6/11/2008 5:09:28 PM)

I've never been in fashion, most likely never will. Cowboy boots (grew up in them .. only comfortable shoe I know of), black Levis most of the time, shirts (yea, occasionally as those out east say ... a loud shirt), big black leather belt with big buckle. Sometimes, even the hat. I do the suit thing for formal affairs (wine tastings and such) but still wear my cowboy boots. Once can only compromise so far.
