DomAviator -> RE: Some voters admit to being racist (6/9/2008 4:00:06 PM)

For the very reasons I discussed at great length in the racism thread Barrack HUSSEIN Obama has less chance of being elected in November tha my cat does.

There is no way in hell, that in the American South and the midwest and the Rocky Mountain states or the Pacific Northwest he will carry the vote. Sure he will get the inner city, and the granola bar and coffeeshop crowd, etc but he is not going to get the coal miner, the oil field roughneck, the guy who works at the grain elevator, the lumberjack, etc..... Hes not going to get the cops or the firemen or the EMS workers.... and he sure as hell isnt going to get the young crowd in the South.

Take the race issue in that a substantial portion of white american is simply not ready for a black president, throw in the millions of angry democratic jews and women who were for Hillary, combine it with the fact that Barrack HUSSEIN Obama is a freshman senator with no track record, no real platform except "change" whatever that means, relatives like Odinga the African Warlord, friends who are at best pieces of work and at worst mental cases and felons, a cunt of a wife who doesnt know when to shut her piehole ("Whitey" "First time to be proud to be an american" etc")  and no military background and the dems might as well sit this out and try again in 2012.

I am delighted to see it as a devout McCain supporter, but the dems really fucked up when they chose Barrack HUSSEIN Obama over Hillary Clinton. I think Hillary would have beat McCain...

I'm an angry democratic Jew and I'd vote for Obama HUSSEIN any day. If I could.

First off the only time government changes is if there is a civil war or revolution. Otherwise it continues as business as usual. Congress will continue their corrupt ways, and the wars will continue. It's the same show....just different characters.
The old saying goes....the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Second, the youth historically does not vote. And in 2000 and 2004 the enthusiasm was very high among the youth. MTV and many different programs tried very, very hard to increase voter registration and such. And many, many of the youth registered to vote. But they didn't show up on election day. It's easy to respond to someone when they walk up to you and ask you to register and sign you up. But it's another to get the motivation to get out of work/school and get to the polls and actually cast a ballot. Most young adults simply do not feel their vote counts.

[/quote)The problem of apathy amongst those eligible to vote in this country can hardly be restricted to youthful voters alone.Like most demographics most non-voters would cite a suspician that their vote "doesn't matter",or as you said nothing really changes...But it would seem Obama's candidicy has energised legions of new voters and it seems to me they aren't content to just make noise in the street, much as my generation did in the 60's and early 70's before we all got a little jaded and disinterested .Now of course this is just my own opinion, but these kids seem more inclined to join the process rather than rail about it from outside the tent.we shall see come Nov. just how committed these new voters are...but as Bob Dylan sang "the times they are a changing....IMHO

cyberdude611 -> RE: Some voters admit to being racist (6/9/2008 4:59:58 PM)

The United States has the lowest voter turnout of any democracy in the world. And I really dont see that changing any time soon.

Also just keep in mind many of those "new voters" for the DNC may simply be Republicans trying to screw around with the Democratic primary. There was a big push on conservative talk radio for conservatives to register as Democrats and vote for Hillary. So I have a feeling those numbers the Democrats are gloating about may be a bit inflated.

And then you also have the problem of a black candidate. You see, these scientific polls are based largely on voting trends of different demographics. Mathematics and statistics are not racist. It doesnt know the difference between white and black. However human beings are racist. We have never had a black candidate run for president. Therefore we have no data on how different voting groups vote historically. So all we have to rely on is data that considers two white male candidates.

My point is that we dont know what's going to happen when voters get in the booth and make a decision. It has been documented of people having silent racism. In other words, they claim to not be racist, they tell pollsters they will even vote for the minority. However when they get into the voting booth, they pick the person who has the same race because the vote is secret and anonymous therefore the person drops their defenses and political correctness. In psychology this is a phenomenon called "cognitive dissonance." And it is seen in politics very often.

slvemike4u -> RE: Some voters admit to being racist (6/9/2008 5:18:04 PM)

cyber dude don't have much to disagree with there(not so sure about the whole Rep.passing as Dem thing)I would say this though the mere fact that we now have a black candidate might just suggest it's time to throw out the old models. This group of young voters have demonstrated a whole new level of commitment to the process than any that came before.Be it Global warming the war in Iraq or disgust with the current batch of idiots in Washington I can not tell you.Perhaps it is just that a higher percentage of our youth pursue higher education and are being exposed to a higher level of discourse than previous generations, whatever it is I don't think they will stay at home come November...turns out I disagreed a bit more than I thought

cyberdude611 -> RE: Some voters admit to being racist (6/9/2008 6:23:31 PM)

I disagree. The youth in the 70s were much, much, much more politically active than the youth today. The reason may have very well have been the draft. Many were seeing their classmates being forced to go to Vietnam and come back dead or injured. Today, the youth that go over to Iraq volunteered. So it's a different set of circumstances and the activism isnt anywhere near as strong. Not even close.

As for throwing out old race models....might work for the youth but not the old. Bringing a black candidate to the ticket is going to bring back memories of the 1960s and could bring racism right back into American politics. That is why some people are saying we may not be ready for a black president. The generation that had such an issue with race is the biggest voting bloc right now. The generation that is most non-racial (the youth) really havnt established themselves in the electorate yet.

Poll in the midwest and you'll find state after state of racist voters.  I'm surprised they voted for Obama in the first place.

Yes, it will be an issue.  I've now read for the 4th time about the Michelle Obama "whitey" tape.  I'm beginning to believe they don't have one yet keep the hype alive just because.

Obama's comment of his grandmother (who raised him) as a "typical white person" grates on me a lot.  I'd love to hear what he meant by that.

Real_Trouble -> RE: Some voters admit to being racist (6/9/2008 6:43:05 PM)

Wait.

Did you think all racists refrained from voting or something?

People are ridiculously stupid in many ways; this should be no surprise to anyone.

I'm going to vote for Obama, because I am tired of getting ass raped by old honky male politicians. (I'm white)

Again CyberDude can't argue with your basic premise, but what happened to all that activism...a lot of noise in the streets and than disillusionment, blame it on Nixon ,Watergate the end of the draft hell blame it on the drugs. My point was this generation seems to be doing there noise making from inside the tent, not in the streets. They IMO seem much more engaged in the process and not as prone to the distractions my generation fell prey to

The government controls the youth by saturating us with mass media full of garbage.  Such as that government-funded idiotic movie "Stop-Loss" ...trying to brainwash the youth by overglamourizing patriotism and linking it to the issue of complying with orders or not to return to a disorganized war.  This totally ignores whether the person in office is fucked up or not by starting and continuing this war that's going nowhere, in effect making them "patriotic" and easily manipulated by whatever moron or old geezer--war pig--steps into office.

Who controls how we think and what we think?  Now who controls the media?  The ones paying the media, that's who.  The government has diverted our attention and oversaturated our society with a bunch of garbledeegunk of shit that no one really cares about, but that is supposed to be "really cool".  One good thing about the outrageous and senseless atrocities from this war, is that it is forcing us to pay more attention (in a better way, i suppose as is progress learning from the past) to the less-exciting (than movies or games) matters of politics.

Bush, has tried to stop this by using fear, blind faith, and supporting his motives for power by linking his actions with the will of the bible.  He's a fucking idiot.

Sorry chickpea can't buy this overly cynical viewpoint of the govm't and mass-media.Railing about some sort of monolithic mass-media totally discounts alternative sources of information,of which the choices are almost endless.Never before have so many options been available from which to cull information and todays youth are using those computer skills for a hell of a lot more than mere diversion and perving of facebook....as far as Bush as idiot no argument here, unfortunately he and his cronies have proven to be very dangerous idiots...

Estring -> RE: Some voters admit to being racist (6/9/2008 11:22:22 PM)

Obviously many are voting for Obama just because he is black. Is that any better?
The country is ready for a black president, just as it is ready for a woman president. Just not Obama or Hillary.
