Worrying over age is a stress that you don't need. Either you have things in common or you don't. How things work out depends on the people and not their physical age. If there's enough there to catch your attention, go ahead and write. I'm with Christine and  thought that at 42 I was too old for anything other than the boards,  some fun conversation and that's it. Your age is only a problem to you if you let it be a problem. And don't write someone off because of their age, you won't know if you don't try. [:)]

Age is not or has not been an issue for me in the past and honestly still isn't. Primarily I was just curious as I had seemed to be at an odd sort of middle of the ground age.  Thanks to those who gave their opinions.

Logan,
On the other side my mail control sends all mail from those younger than 27 or older than 45 to my bulk mail. I have never been attracted to someone older than myself, in all honesty even 10 years old than myself seems a little strange to me. However, I do check my bulk mail periodically and have contacted a few younger and older than those ages because of the initial e-mails they sent. For me, it's about having common ground, common goals, and common views regarding life.

Blessed be,
Nika

hehe - my Sir is 11 years older than me - and i will admit, it weirded me out for a while.  I kept thinking that statistically he will die before me, and i will be left behind.
I am over that - i  have to think that i love the time we spend together, and quit worrying about what might happen. For me the important thing is that i love him and the way i feel when i am with him. [:D]

As long as you approach people respectfully, and can handle it like an adult if they rebuff you, i would encourage you to reach out to anyone that seems to be interesting to you.  You never know when someone may be waiting for someone just like you ....  whatever your age.

I agree that worrying will do no good.  But planning for possible bad stuff is also wise.

I place preferred ages on my profile as a guideline for anyone who is looking to contact me. I will read all emails, irregardless of age, when the individual has made the effort to read my profile.

While I do not wish to have anyone extremely young or old, age is only a number and maturity will make an impression.

Maturity does not come with age, by the way. Plenty of emails from older individuals who obviously have the maturity of a 3 yr old.

I personally prefer men over thirty, but under forty.

Interestingly enough, the most engaging people I've met on this site have been mostly over forty.

I have no doubt that it's my immaturity that makes me hesistate to interact with a person over forty. I'm comfortable with thirty-somethings, as I have siblings, cousins and friends in that age range. I can relate (to some extent). Forty-something and above, all I can think is, "You could be my father." It makes for a disconcerting experience, especially in an arena such as this.

If I had to make a choice, I'd choose a partner over my age range instead of under, without a second thought.

Deliena -> RE: Have I reached 'That Age'? (6/10/2008 12:17:51 PM)

I've got friends (and had playmates) in a wide range of ages, including one spectacular gentleman who was 67 years old (and extremely fabulous).  My Master is younger than me and I do sometimes worry that since we are in different parts of our lives, he's just starting his career, I've already established mine and got a 9 year old daughter that the time gap may present challenges in terms of life choices (will he feel he's missed out on the chance to start a family?  Will he want to move away for his career?)

But to be honest I've never been in a relationship where there weren't challenges to overcome, you do ones related to age the same as any others, you talk things through, think about how you feel and make the choices that feel right.  Shrug, am I over-simplifying something or am I just missing the complexity?
