I took out an ad in "Plenty of fish.com" a huge and FREE dating site because it's FREE and I'm cheap and I don't pay for dating sites.
I got a reply from a woman who at first seemed well spoken and nice (nice pic too) but as the letter progressed the alarm bells went off!
"Am Sally by name."
"I wish to love you a long time" etc. etc.
Seems the Nigerians and others are branching out to legitimate dating sites now!
I get so many e-mails from scammers now that there must be 100's of thousands of them!
Just a warning to all in here to be wary!
Have you had similar experiences?
Oh, and I mentioned that I'm Dominant and there was no problem with that.

I have never been scammed.  I've never received messages urging me to send people money.  I wonder why people can't just ignore the scammers.  Is there something in their message that makes people give them money?

Katy, lately they don't ask for money up front.
They "get to know you" first and then comes whatever pitch they choose to use.
But, you can tell something's rotten in Denmark when their English starts to deteriorate and they say they come from, "New York, Texas."
Maybe the dating sites that you have to pay for don't have them or have less of them.

I was shocked when I first began using the internet to find a job. So many scammers, trying to get money under so many guises.

So no I'm not suprised at them using a dating site. I've had no end from the nanny/babysitter section of gumtree its no suprise when they turn up elsewhere.

I'm such an old fart.  We used to have women hanging outside the caves offering to let us hit them with our clubs if we'd just give them a nice roast of raptor.

Seriously, this is really nothing new.  I remember getting replies to my advertisements in Latent Image (ask your kinky grandfather about that) offering to fly to my arms if I'd just pay for their air ticket (petrol bill/bus ticket).  Some of them were obvious: photocopied letters, including the signature, poorly duplicated photos (I remember one where I could make out the staples across her boob line).  Others were more patient and clever... and usually asked for more cash.

Popeye I realize they don't charge out of the gate asking for money.  Do you think people are so desperate to get laid/have a relationship that they will fall for the requests for money?  My money is important to me and I wouldn't give it to a stranger, regardless of how outlandish the reason was (I need money for my sick mother and starving kids...."), I guess I'm immune from stupid stuff like that.  And I think it's amusing that people fall for it.  I guess the scammers are filling a need though.

Does this mean that letter you sent me was a form letter Cali?  And here I thought I was special.  I was looking forward to some long loving.

My favorites are those Hot Nigerian Babes.  Plenty of them to mess with right here.

No scammers lately but i have a plague of bots popping up on my Yahoo IM, offering me a chance to see them on web cam, etc.  They always get my inactive Yahoo nick, which i never used for IM anyway, and i dun know how to stop this...but i always take just a second to click on the lil box that reports them to Yahoo...like that does any good.

I also noticed a recent onslaught of "Dominant Women" from the Philippines here on CM. Having my criteria set last night to dominant women, willing to relocate, and with photos... a full 1/3 of the first page of selections were from the Philippines... and most of those were from one city.

I can't help but wonder if they are the next major group of scammers.

Popeye,

Get off of that site immediately to avoid an even larger flood of spam, bots, viruses, etc.

i've been on pof for a lil while; had heard some good things about it.  Gotta say, i'm disappointed; my email is either male subs asking me to Domme them (where have i heard that before) or 'nilla guys looking for a quickie.  However, i haven't had any problems with viruses or anything like that on pof.

Used to get em like crazy on b"dot" com, so i quit going there altogether; haven't been in years.  It's kinda a shame since P/pl tell me T/they enjoy it...must be some bug in my isp or s'thing.

Interestingly enough, I received a private message last night, suggesting that there indeed is a scammer ring operating out of Zamboanga City, Philippines... which just happens to be the location of most of those profiles I mentioned earlier.

I haven't substantiated this information, but thought I'd pass it along nevertheless.

Go into options and tweak your settings. You can set YM to block anyone not on your friends list for contact and for web cam requests.
