I'm switching to FireFox from Avant, I just downloaded FF but I can't figure out how to get my bookmarks from Avant to FF. I went to export bookmarks in Avant and that opened my program files. So I clicked on FF and that opened the following folders:chromedictionariespluginsuninstallcomponentsextensionsresdefaultsgreprefssearchplugins That is when I got lost. I tried finding the directions on Mozillas home page and Avants but.. argh. Computer stuff is not my forte`. Please can someone give me step by step directions for dummies? I really do need the most basic of directions. Pleaseeeeeeee help me.

HI Camille, under your defaults(as mentioned above), there will be a "profile"  folder, click on that  and in that folder should be a bookmarks.html file, that should be it, best of luck:)

Lucy all I get are the bookmarks from IE, which I hardly used and had only a couple of bookmarks. When I used the import wizard thingie, it only gave me the option of importing from IE not Avant.Argh I hate being lost.

I don't know much about Avant. Sounds like you're in for a messy transfer of those bookmarks. You might try using Internet Explorer as an intermediary between Avant and Firefox. Go from Avant to IE Favorites to Firefox bookmarks. See more here:

I dunno, I googled it.

If you can export the favourites from Avant as a text file then you can import it into Firefox that way as well.

edited for silly spelling

I dont know how avant works with this site, but FF at times has some glitches that IE doesnt. (Just an FYI, smiles)

Avant locked up on me a lot, but jeez it had features that FF hasn't and I miss them. Especially being able to change the color of the browser, the pale blue is hard for me to read against. And I still can't quite figure out my bookmarks.
But then I'm fairly pc illiterate.

There are a lot of themes available for FF in all sorts of color combinations. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:2/cat:all?sort=name

What are you trying to figure out with the bookmarks?

Thanks so much for that link MistressHolly71, it should help.
On the bookmarks, well it took ages to figure out how to import them (but YAYYYY I did it with help from this thread).
Now I have the ones from IE under bookmarks naturally but the important bookmarks from Avant ended up under bookmarks then under 'Bookmarks Tool Folder' and I cannot seem to make them merge. So they are scattered between two different sections within 'bookmarks'.
I spent an hour on Mozillas site trying to find help but alas I think I'm too computer-idjity even for that. Most annoying dang it!

On the skins... I am not super familiar with them. If I download one and end up not liking it, is it easy to uninstall a skin? Oy I feel like I'm in PC 101 remedial hah.
Thanks!

Firefox *really* shines with the Adblock+ and NoScript plugins.

Tools->Add Ons... Yadda Yadda Yadda...

Camille, in FF you can move your bookmarks around a couple of different ways...

1)  Open the bookmarks in the sidebar... click View>Sidebar>Bookmarks... then you can drag and drop your bookmarks into any folder you like.

2)  Open the Bookmarks Manager... click Bookmarks>Organize Bookmarks... again, you can drag and drop to organize your bookmarks however you like.

Yes it is. Just go to Tools -> Add-ons-> Themes. You can switch to a different one or uninstall it from there.
