I do know what you mean though I don't call it a reset..I call it Rez, because once I am in that state, even the most head blind person resonates with me and can become cruel towards me. I become enourmously accident prone and have broken things (toes mostly), pulled hot pans from the oven without mitts burning the palms of my hands, burnt myself other ways and ripped toenails up from their beds accidently.

It drove a Sadist I knew into his own form of Rez when he and his Slave delivered a wardrobe they no longer wanted to me.  By the time he got back on the road he was bouncing off the doors of the car and was halfway home before he realized what it was. He turned around, came back, grabbed me, shoved me in the car and took me back to their place where he answered both our needs for the rest of the night while his slave looked on wide eyed. She was not a masochist and had never seen him indulge this need in him so deeply. The pain was glorious and it drove him wild when I began to laugh at his efforts (something I have no control over. If it's good, then I am going to laugh, a deep throaty one that challenges you to greater effort)

Now for a question back..Do you find yourself going the other way from time to time..the need for pain REDUCING for a period along with the levels of pain you can handle. I find that happens for me when life is too chaotic or when I have subliminated the need into other areas of my life for too long. Than it needs to be kickstarted, but slowly, building back up to previous levels.

Lots of compulsions are re-set buttons. You can achieve a desired emotional state through a known stimulation. The thing at work is control. When you are going along reacting to things or in the habits of the day that get increasingly complex and various, you feel uneasy and want clarity, simplicity, relief. The re-set effect is when you have a way to push everything else aside, limiting your focus to just the one thing. If there is a phsychological link to some main idea in your personality, all the better. For example if you are anxious and fearful about life or an aspect of it, you imagine punsihments or bad results waiting for you. Howevere if you take matters into your own hands, take control, by punishing yourself, you momentarily escape the dread and do so in a way that matches your views. It makes sense and feels right. When a re-set button is self-destructive, better figure it out and find a better one. These things escalate and then you no longer can bring yourself to that happy place. At heart it is an anxiety disorder. Great to play with unless it is actually harmful.

fr--

yep. i've got one. and periodically i cross the line just to get the pain, though i don't necessarily realize that's what i'm doing until after it happens. i also run the other way too --i sometimes have to get sado so intensely that i start lashing out if i need to as well.

I asked clip about this last evening.  He is definitely a masochist.  When he leaves here, and eventually gets to Iraq, well, it's not exactly like he'll be having any ways for an outlet.  I asked him how he thought this need would be met.  He just told Me that there were no shocks in most military vehicles.

I want to thank everybody who has posted to this thread.   It's not very often that I share or talk about "the reset button" with other people. It's something that's been a part of me since childhood.

Again, thank you to everybody who posted.

daddysliloneds -> RE: Masochistic reset button (7/1/2008 6:24:43 PM)

my masochism is a need, though, i'm not a self-inflictor, yet, in a way i am...

when i can't get my needs met, i tend to kick box, punch a few walls,  do long and excrutiating painful work-outs or hard labor; it tied me over for three years and it was the best i looked and healthiest i've been in a long time, i kid you not!

From the perspective of the sadist, it applies to some or all of us.

I don't see the oddity.  It is like sex.  You get horny, you jerk off if you have no one in your life.  If you are a masochist, it is part of your needs.  Just like sex or chocolate, cravings can appear out of the blue, or build up because of denial.

But really, you should let me hit you.
