I'm not much help, I'm afraid. Once I had a trojan or two that nothing could detect, and I was running some pretty weird specialty things to get find the little buggers. Whatever it was killed off system restore, disabled the security center, and actually blocked me from accessing Microsoft's windows update page, or the security center page. The other symptoms were tons of redirects. Finally I signed up for Mozy, uploaded everything important (especially the motherboard drivers), saved another copy on a portable drive, bit the bullet and wiped the drive. Took about a day or so to get the machine back up with the apps I needed. The only thing I messed up was my bookmarks file. Right now I run Comodo for the firewall and Webroot Anti-Virus (it's also got a malware detector) on a Win7 laptop (the XP machine's drive croaked a few months after the drive wipe. I figured 6 years and 1 upgrade was enough.) Shahar, I've got no idea on the IE8 problem. Does it happen every time you start IE7, or randomly?
