Status: offline 		I didn't know whether to mention this here or in the News section but it isn't BDSM related, it is a history programme.
It's a UK announcement - I don't know as yet if the programme will be available on the net as yet.
 
Monday on channel 4 there is a Season Called Victorian Passions.  On the 9th June Rupert Everett is presenting a programme on one of his 'heroes' Captain Sir Richard Burton.
 
Burton translated One Thousand and One Nights (ArabianNights), Karma Sutra and was a big influence on victorian sexuality and erotica.  He is also known for blowing the lid on Jewish Ritual Murders and this was interpreted as him being anti semitic(See the book 'The Jew').
 
He was an explorer who, studied homosexuality in Karachi and introduced his fascination of eastern erotica to the masses.
 
He is also reported to be the person to introduce Pyjamas to the west.  This is just a heads up for anyone interested in watching.

Status: offline 		A great man, a great writer and a great explorer.  Translated the 1001 Nights, traveled to Mecca, did so much that he would never be believed if he were a fictional character.

I'll have to look for it when BBC America shows it

Status: offline 		I remember reading the kamasutra as a teen (made little sense at 13, but stayed with me for years ) and reading that it was translated by Richard Burton, course, I thought he meant the other Richard Burton, Duh,

BTW, what are the Jewish murders?  Never heard of anything like that before, and i'm a real true crime buff.

Burton released a few manuscripts but I don't know if they are available in their entirity due to them being kind of 'blacklisted' all those years ago - plus they would be rare items and probably cost!  You can pick it up on amazon(at least a copy).
 
You may get it online in file form- but again, I cant say if they might be editted versions.
 
They usually announce if the programme is available on the net when it is being airred or just after. If they do and I hear it, I will leave a link here.

Status: offline 		Jewish ritual murders are an anti semetic propaganda used to incite pograms and other such attacks on Jews. There never has been an authenticated case, in several hundred years of such claims, of any Jew using Christian children's blood to make charoset which is a dish used during the Seder ceremony. There are however a great many authenticated cases of such claims being made around Passover to incite pograms and murder of entire Jewish villages.


Please don't spread such lies without doing the slightest bit of research. It has lowered my opinion of you enormously.

I invite you to infiltrate the jewish poulation including orthodox sect. When you do that, tell me if you ever see any ritual slaughter of anyone. This from a people who will only use the front part of a cow and say a prayer before slaughter of even a chicken would not be killing innocent children.

Please site these legitimate sources in this book?

Status: offline 		Well, frankly Celeste, your opinion of me is pretty pointless and not really an issue.   But just so you do not misrepresent my post, nor my position  -  I posted what he was accused of being precisely of this reaction, to show I was informed of his past, to show he WASN'T necessarily a hero.
 
Just because you have got away in the past with misrepresenting what others on CM may write, does not mean you will succeed your usual games with me.

No, it wasn't passed off as legitimate,which is why he was accused of being anti-semitic.  Did I say it was true?
No.  As I said, Rupert Everet is presenting a programme on one of his 'heroes'(hence placing it in quotations and then explaining the 'other' side of his 'discoveries).
I also explained that the texts have been messed around with - therefore indicating that the texts are not authentic nor original.

Well sorry for the misunderstanding. i was influenced by what others said too. But it did not seem in character for you. You have always been a very logical gal. i did find it odd and out of character. 
My faith in mankind is restored and all is right with the world. Phew!
