pinksugarsub -> Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 12:14:28 AM)

i have dear F/friends of all stripes; gay, straight, bi, monogamous, poly, Dom, sub, switch and if i'm forgetting A/anyone, T/them too.

Are Y/you comfortable with P/pl of different "outlooks" as F/friends...or is it  a case of birds of a feather flock together for Y/you?

I have awesome friends.  I love them for what's in their heart, and what their spirits reflect.  I have never been blessed with such loving people in my life before.  I don't care who they love.  I just love that they do.  I have Christian friends, Athiest friends, Jewish friends, gay friends, bi friends, younger friends, older friends, wealthy friends, and dirt poor friends.

But they all have a capacity to love, to be compassionate, to be funny, giving, intelligent, goofy, and happy.

I truly and sincerely adore my friends. There are about 28  of them real-time that I could call trustworthy, reliable, non-judgmental, supportive, loyal and giving. (other good things as well). So there are more if I would count on-line. That number of friends is awesome and I am blessed in my life because of it. I would like to consider that those qualities are reciprocal and that I can be giving, reliable and trustworthy and so-forth for them.
But as for sexuality, predilection, orientation, race or creed? Across the board totally.....dom, sub, trans, gay, long, lost and probably forgotten at times: but still friends.
They are accepting of me on pretty much unconsitional grounds and  me of them. That above all is the common denominator.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 2:02:19 AM)

Birds of a feather for me, but only insofar as them all being such great, non-judgemental, respectful and loving people. My close friends I can count on one hand, I also include my ex-husband in my 'family'.

pinkwind -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 2:04:42 AM)

If it wasn't for the fact that we have friends of all shades, persuasions and proclivities our lives would be so insular and colourless in a way. It is the very fact of having those differences amongst our friends that gives us a broader outlook on life and more interesting interactions and situations, discussions and attachments.

my sexuality is only one element to who i am, although my submissive nature has coloured the whole of me and my life, and given that others do not share my kink does not mean that we do not have similar natures, nor that even in our differences we do not have a deep understanding of each others.

Life might well be rather boring if all we focused on, or had in common, was our shared involvement in kink, and it's our expansive shared loves of the myriad of life experiences and love for differing avenues that makes our friendships with others so interesting and enduring.

MstrVik -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 2:13:07 AM)

I love and appreciate my friends for everything that they are and I have friends of every possible persuation. And it's not only that I am comfortable with that; I very much prefer it that way and I also see that it gives me a lot of insight that I might otherwise have easily missed out on. All of them enrich my life in various ways and I am sincerely grateful for it.

HalloweenWhite -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 3:12:10 AM)

If someone wants to be My friend Im very flattered, sometimes, Im just amazed! lol. Being picky about freindships makes not one bit of sense to Me-I've seen friendships come and go and I understand how fragile they are so I make the most of them,also, it kind of smacks of a form of predjudice to say "Ok, you can be My friend, but you can't" even if it's to Myself.

I've had Dom friends, Domme friends, sub friends and slave friends (no switch friends though, oddly) and I can honestly say they have -all- enriched My life and made it fun and interesting.

camille65 -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 3:14:35 AM)

I think I'd be bored senseless if every friend I had was just like me! That would be too much like insulating myself from the world and all of its infinite variety, it makes no sense to me.

The only 'group' I currently have no friends from is vanilla... straight, gay, bi, Dom/me, sub, switch, M/s, D/s, Top/bottom I have friends and aquaintences from them all. The fewest in number seems to be malesubs, but I guess thats because I have far less in common with them than any other grouping and thus less to draw us into talking, those malesubs I do count as friends are Owned by Mistress' I already knew.

RCdc -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 5:38:49 AM)

Darcy and I have friends regardless of their outlooks, ethnicity or life choices which have nothing to do with our friendship with them unless they inflict negativity onto our ethics or relationship - in which case, the would not be our friends.

I form friendships with humans, cats and dogs. I'm good with faces, also with names, but beyond that I stop categorizing.

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 6:16:17 AM)

friends are great as long as they stay just that. I do not mix my sex life with my friends.  they come in all flavors you have casual friends  close friends and friends who just work with ya  any how  dats about it

bashfulhuck -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 1:07:47 PM)

i have friends of all persuasions, even vanilla. One of my best friends happens to be a religious, vanilla, straight and narrow type of person. Him and his wife accept me for what i am, i accept them for what they are.
i'm the type of person that just loves humanity, and judge people based off of what i see in their heart, not their orientation.
Now you've done it, you've made me want to go get a hug from someone dammit. :)

leadership527 -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 1:23:38 PM)

*shrugs*  Gee, some things matter to me, other things do not.  The color of your skin or the bed partners you choose means utterly nothign to me.  I have friends of various ethniciities and relationship types.  What is true, however, is that if someone's views are too wildly divergent and they are unwilling to discuss those views in any meaningful way, then there is little point in engaging them in conversation let alone friends.  For this reason, I find it really funny that despite owning a 24/7 live-in slave, the only 'group' (*laughs* -- thanks Raven) that I currently have no friends in is.. well, all the non-vanilla groups.  I have an active friends list of gays, lesbians, straights, young people (down to 21 in one case that I count as a very close friend), old people, and skin colors of all types.  What I cannot seem to find much common ground with is the BDSM "scene" and all of it's semi-related branches like gorean, domestic discipline, etc.

Oh yes, and to Stella's point, I've been good friends with a great many cats although I've never been very clear on whether they are friends with me or not :)

Well i guess it's due to O/our different life experiences Raven; i only found D/s 3 years ago.  i have vanilla friends whom i've had for going on 30 years now whom i love like they're my own family.  My life would be much darker without them.

LaTigresse -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 3:48:53 PM)

The only criteria for someone being my friend have nothing at all to do with sexuality, religioun, race, gender, political bent, etc etc etc.

Being a decent caring human being that can put up with me is much more important.

Sir and I have good folks in our life, of all persuasions, both who share and who are ignorant to our leather bend.

PsyVamp -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/3/2008 6:48:02 PM)

If I waited to find somebody "just like me" to have for a friend, I'd be waiting a long long time.

Sometimes, the people in my life look at my circle of friends and wonder why I would speak to them, or they to me.  Sometimes, they do not see enough commonality to make them comfortable.
Each person that I call friend has something in common with me, from location/ orientation / fetish / history / spiritual... even the opposites have something in common

Interesting.  i think my old vanilla friends and i have quite a lot in common...many, many shared values and experiences.  However my D/s friends are usually different from me in many ways, and have had different experiences.  Wonder if it's just because i met T/them at different stages of my life?

IronBear -> RE: Friends and T/their Persuasions (6/4/2008 7:45:17 AM)

Whilst my circle of friends is limited (mostly  because I am particular who gets that close to me, to think of and call them a friend), I do have a circle of close associates. In both cases I share something in common with each one, be it acedemic, spiritual or something else. I care no about their colour, racem creed, ethnicisity religion or anything else. I care about then as individual special people who have in some way have enriched my life and mayhap I theirs.
