Managing Yr Yahoo IM Friends List - 6/2/2008 10:31:12 PM

i can't reach Private Chat here on CollarMe; some bug with java i guess, so i have all these Doms i've spoken to on my Yahoo IM list...and i swear, i'm about ready to scrap the thing and start over with a new Yahoo nick, except that's a real imposition on the P/pl i want to stay in touch with.

i'm too lazy to go through and read archives and try and decide if Someone i can't recall is a Person i wanna stay in touch with, and i'm not always good about noting Their CollarMe nicks on Their Yaoo IM, so i get confused and can't refer back to Their profile.

To make matters worse, my Yahoo IM isn't deleting; i dunno why; stupid thing is so buggy i usually have to reinstall it about every 3 months anyway just to keep it working.

i like chat; i prefer not to go directly to phone...or worse yet, to a r/l meeting.  i guess there's not much A/anyone can suggest, but i wondered how O/other P/pl manage their YIMs?

I keep mine down until I receive a quick email that so and so is on. Then, I start mine up.

I had the same problem with stacks of people on my yahoo friends list that I had spoken with maybe once.  I got rid of all my chat programs and now exchange emails with a person and then jump to phone or coffee.  I haven't found any problems in doing this.

YIM (the latest version) works fine for me. Have you upgraded to V.8.1? Also, I use the "contact details>notes" setting to input notes about the people I talk with - really helps and easy to get to.

I used to run Yahoo and it crashed all the time. When I got my new computer, I didn't bother setting it up. I am not crazy about chatting online anyway. I use Ventrillo when I play WOW, but that is a voice chat and that can be handy.

I'm on Linux, but I use Kopete and Pidgin.

I operate a strict priority system for Yahoo! Messenger - family and close friends only, assuming they live more than 100 miles away. I won't put anyone onto my IM who lives closer. E-mail, phone or face to face meetings.

I also use Skype. I have more people on Skype. I have my theatre and theatrical contacts on Skype.

Yahoo! downloaded from the official site and installed onto a Windows system tends to cause problems.

Right click on their name on yahoo list and go to 'contact details'. Put their CM nik there, it will list them as that instead of their yahoo nik.  Fill in phone # etc as you get them.

I dont understand what you meant by not being able to delete stuff though.

oh ok, re-read.  you have to remove it in add/remove programs, make sure anything named yahoo is gone.
