Some of you may be aware that new laws have/are coming into place (are they already in place?) putting new restrictions into what kind of pornographic images you can own.

I saw a website that was pretty handy, labelling fetishes with a colour coded system letting you know whats now legal, illegal, and touchy ground.  Can't find this website now.

So what images are now illegal?

The new legislation, which i think is what you are talking about, does not come into force until next year, but if you have a look at the Backlash site they have oodles of info there.

In short - Anything that can be classed as obscene.  Images such as fisting or golden showers could be deemed by authorities depending on the situation. It also comes down to what they suspect you of as an individual.

The new pornography law in the UK, which hasn't taken effect yet, makes it illegal to be in possession of an "extreme pornographic image", where a person's life appears to be threatened, or where serious injury to a person's anus, breasts or genitals is likely (i guess serious injury to other body parts is allowed), or where sexual acts with animals or human corpses are shown (i think it's kind of hard to get consent from a corpse or an animal).

House of Commons Session 2006 - 07
Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill

Part 6

Criminal law
Pornography etc.

64 Possession of extreme pornographic images

(1) It is an offence for a person to be in possession of an extreme pornographic image.
(2) An "extreme pornographic image" is an image which is both
(a) pornographic, and
(b) an extreme image.
(3) An image is "pornographic" if it appears to have been produced solely or principally for the purpose of sexual arousal.

(6) An "extreme image" is an image of any of the following
(a) an act which threatens or appears to threaten a person’s life,
(b) an act which results in or appears to result (or be likely to result) in serious injury to a person’s anus, breasts or genitals,
(c) an act which involves or appears to involve sexual interference with a human corpse,
(d) a person performing or appearing to perform an act of intercourse or oral sex with an animal, where (in each case) any such act, person or animal depicted in the image is or appears to be real.

http://www.justice.gov.uk/publications/criminal-justice-bill.htm

There is an online petition, at (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/extreme-images/?showall=1), which states: "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Withdraw section 6 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill, 2007." Submitted by Sean Goldthorpe - Deadline to sign up by: 09 July 2008 - Signatures: 839

Even some lawmakers are wanting to have the law changed.

Lawmakers from the ruling Labour Party and Conservative opposition sought to water down the bill by allowing images made of consenting adults or actors, though none wanted to derail the government's plan to move the legislation to the upper chamber of Parliament tonight.

``Everybody is opposed to violent acts that are real violent acts, but when it is simply for sexual purposes such as bondage, it shouldn't be a criminal offense,'' Harry Cohen, a Labour member of Parliament who wants the bill amended, said in an interview in London. ``The definition of what will be an offense is far too wide. People won't know what the threshold is.''

Informed Consent (http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/weblogs/Degenerate/191259/), has information about demonstrations that took place recently at the British Library and Parliament Square, protesting this law.  More may be planned.

Kaine,
You set yourself up for losing by calling what you want to view "pornographic". You only have to venture back to the days of the 'Victoria Era'. Anal or oral sex was "sick"; homosexuality got you committed to an insane asylum. Admitting what you want to view is "pornographic" and you've condemned yourself. The perverted Justices see pornography - you see ART~!

Call it 'Art' that stimulates you mentally and emotionally, and you may have a better argument. Tell them you are moved at the sight of a bound breast, swollen and tinted a favorite shade of blue as the result of long term confinement. Say that to you, it represents the confinement we all feel restricted from the mother's 'milk' of liberty. The "pornography" is in the eyes of a judge who deems that same image in an inappropriate sexual context.

~ Editorial ~

I don't understand why anyone in the UK is complaining. When your ambition is abdicate all personal accountability and replace it with reliance on a 'nanny'; how can you think you'll have involvement in the process if/when the 'nanny' wants to set rules?

The 'nanny' already believes you are an unfit parent and took off commercials on children's programming for products deemed by the nanny not to be good for children. You think removing some of your entertainment options deserved your input? Seriously?

Not that I think the sheeple in the US aren't striving for the same thing - we're just a few years behind. Hopefully enough years so that I'll be gone and won't have to mark my calender for the day when I need to first check with 'nanny' about what I can and can't view.

I remember a time in the nineties in the UK when if you didn't know better, when you looked at a top shelf mag you were confronted with the notion that soft porn models didn't actually have all the equipment mother nature gave mere mortal women......

Namely an "Anus"!!!

I take it the meaning of anything that could cause damage to the anus , doesn't mean the harmless act of butt fucking??

If it does, thats old news........

Mercnbeth has the right idea, I think. I see the "nanny" a little differently.
So often people drawn to government office are so bent on gathering more power and control to themselves  -- almost a competition to outdo each other.
People elect them to fix all our problems.
At first, it all seems so Safe, Sane and Consentual -- doesn't it?
Then before long, the power-hungry addicts have the people believing that they are incapable of making decisions, that they are inherently weak and growing weaker, growing dumb and dumber, and that it is impossible for them to live without a strong, unyeilding, central Uni-Master government with a "one-size-fits-all" mentality.

Seems these "masters" don't have a clue about what it means to "grow" their submissive ones.....

Editted to add this comment:
Love the  Art~!  angle ! That's exactly right.

Well I guess that puts the kibosh on any videos or programmes about gender reassignment surgery, doesn't it?

There are two consequences of this effort to legislate a standard 'norm' of morality. The first is obvious and direct. For instance here in the States, unless a nipple is on a black person shown in a National Geographic program on natives; you can't show it on TV - PERIOD! Case in point, was the hysteria regarding Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction at the Super-bowl a few years back. Maybe if halftime was sponsored by National Geographic she would have gotten away with it. The situation isn't only sexist (male nipples are okay) but racist! The 'we are protecting the children!' rationalization comes into play.

The second is more insidious and has a greater impact on the infringement of freedom and information access. It's the self regulation that will occur when producers of documentaries and programming find they have no buyer for their work if it even approaches the subject matter of this law.

Take the specific issue you cite; who is going to finance any programing regarding the issues of gender reassignment surgery if it is subject to being called obscene by one judge in one jurisdiction under his personal interpretation of the statute? Not only does the project not get seen, it never gets consideration for being made in the first place.

You know, down the line maybe shoe commercials will be banned. After all - to some, seeing a female foot is more erotic than a nipple. Damn, if they could only get puritanical with those annoying Viagra commercials! After all, aren't they selling sex as the ultimate result of using their product. MY GOD - What if unmarried or, HEAVENS!, gay people used it for their perverted purposes! We have to protect our children!

We're a lot closer to the Orwellian version of the government monitoring what we can and can't see than we realize. The two way ability of our video access is already in place on the internet - soon, most of our media will be coming through a similar source and be similarly track-able.

The temperature of the water is rising and few frogs have enough sense to try and jump out.

Yep: the human interest angle is all they ever do....the psychological torment of being in the wrong body, then a quick visit to a (private) behavioural therapist and (private) speech therapist , then cut to taking a loved one with you to see a private surgeon in Thailand and miraculously waking up 8 hours later et voila! cue Goldilocks.
Why I've never ever seen a gender re-assignment on Greys Anatomy, ER, or Holby City. Or come to mention it a What Not to Wear when passing either. Trinny and Suzanna how could you miss out on that! shame on you.
Although male castration apparently got the ratings.......let's face it if Max Clifford can't make a few quid out of protecting a peek at someone's tits it ain't worth screening....that in my humble screw ball PO is where we are about at in the British Media and it's better than most in the world heaven help us.

Yes: like milk comes from rubber teets in plastic bottles.....breast feeding almost anywhere in public gets the same reaction. We do an 'acceptable' job though of co-opting a little radicalism here and there by calling it humour......stuff like Little Britain essentailly raises a larf and a harf at the insane, gay and the nipple squirting. As long as we dare to laugh at it then it's ok.....

I think it's time to blow a whistle here.

The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, right? Leningrad fell soon after right? 1989 Round Table talks between Lech Walesa, the Polish Solidarity Movement and the former PZPR party headed by General Jaruszelski. Remember December 13 1981 and the imposition of martial law in Poland? Strikes and uprisings in Gdansk? The internment of Lech Walesa and Jacek Kuron?

Okay New Years Day 1984 without any announcement the PZPR suddenly ended martial law. Later that year one of the biggest influential figures of the Polish Solidarity movement Father Jerzy Popieluszki was brutally murdered between Torun and Wloclawek in October 1984 by officers of Department IV of the Polish Internal Ministry - Anti-Catholic Branch, he was murdered in a forest near Torun by government agents, his body loaded into the boot of a car, in Wloclawek his body was transferred to a sack and he was thrown over a dam heading the Wloclawek Lake to land on the northern bank of the Vistula River some way east of Wloclawek town centre. Today a 50m tall white illuminated cross marks the spot where his body was found.

The Berlin Wall fell for freedom right? Suddenly afterwards the EEC becomes the European Union and the ratification of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992, allowing freedom of passage between 12 or 15 European countries, and the right to reside and find employment in any of these countries?

Accession in 2004 adds a further 10 central and Eastern European countries including Poland, which at the time of the accession had 40% of the entire workforce in their 20's.

Unknown to people in Britain, but witnessed first hand by me, and I'm sure anyone else in Poland, the media campaign of 2003 suggesting Britain is the second Poland.. '500,000 jobs for Poles in Britain' ran the headlines. What happened?

Veni, vidi, vici, right?

I don't always agree with Mercnbeth, but read what he is writing. I am in 100% agreement. This isn't just about porn. You do also realize that due to a technicality in the Polish Criminal Code (I think Article 247 but this is off the top of my head) BDSM activities are illegal and they combine sexual acts with violence.

The writing is on the wall. Is this the freedom and liberty for what the Berlin Wall fell for in 1989? And why the European Union was formed?

The OP is an issue of censorship, we have an army of cheap labor migrant workers from Eastern Europe. They've been hoodwinked into thinking this is freedom, but in reality they're an integral part of building a totalitarian regime. From August in the UK we also have welfare benefit reforms, from October the Government plans tio have full employment and zero unemployment where millions are going to be forced off benefits - including the disabled, mentally ill, chronically ill, and forced to sign up to employment agencies - not for a job - but for the chance of a job and on this daily chance will their whole livelihoods depend. The employment market is saturated as it is - not just migrant workers, our own unskilled workers, but an army of college and university graduates, almost all in debt, and from the autumn anyone who was previously on benefits.

I'm sure enough of us already know about the ID card scheme.

Trust me, if ever there was a time for people in the UK to overcome their differences and come together and show some solidarity then it's this year. Next year and the next Gnereal Election just might be too late.

They can already microchip dogs. How much longer before they start microchipping humans?

Do we need to be reminded of Martin Niemoller's poem? Check it out.

Dear Stella: I posted in reply to Mernbeth late last night. I too agree with them 100%.
This is a political issue.
I rememeber the womens' marches against American Imperialism and the USA missile bases here.
I recall in my life-time fevered marches with CND and being trampled under horses as a young teacher marching for increased wages.
If there had bever been whistle nlowers in the tobacco industry we would still have aculture here with regard to 1950's smoking habits BECAUSE the Goevernment's revenue is paramount in their thinking.
I was a student also of Political science and what I am saying about this is that I myself, my body, my protest, is an instrument of protest. No other way is stronger.
So what do I suggest? Porn is OUT!
If there was a strong enough slogan and a big enough drive to get porn OUT then yes it could be used as a tool of social change.
PS Ed. to add; by the way it is stil more risky to put my face on collarme (even though that is what I am forced to do because of TOS) than my sexual organs as on alt. More people (still) recognise my face than my arse .........just about.

Hullo,

yes this is one that the puritans are pushing through under the banner of child porn, which no one will argue with.

Be aware that it is worded to be very inclusive and covers not just photos of actual or simulated acts; but drawings as well. We have all seen those pen and ink sketches posted by some on other sites in leu of their photo? Well I think some if not most of those, since they usually shew acts not actually possible with persons because of the likelyhood of physical harm, are going to be included. And remember the word is possession!

Since I am a 'green' person I recycle my paper. Being aware of the danger of identity theft this is via my shredder and the compost heap !

Erasmic.

Seems Mr Blair's namesake Eric got it wrong by 25 years !

What is going on here?  What is up with You Brits?

Are you trying to get an entry in the Guinness World Records for being the world's largest doormat (one who submits meekly to domination or mistreatment by others) by laying there and letting your elected government walk all over your civil rights of freedom of expression? Or, is freedom of expression not a protected right in the UK?

What is up with all this, hand-wringing and "woe is me/we.....our big, bad government is being so mean to us"?

Do you not have a representative form of government?

Do you not elect your lawmakers to represent you?

Or, do you actually accept being ruled by an "elected dictatorship", instead?

Do you have no right to petition your elected officials when you feel that they are not representing you the way that you want?

Sure, there are plenty of people in The States who feel that Americans have become apathetic about being able to affect any real change in our government but, the truth is that when the citizenry does act up and make their voice be heard, changes do take place.

Do you not have the backbone to stand up, take a stand, make your voice be heard, and get some action taken on behalf of your collective and individual civil rights (assuming you have some)?

Instead of 'boo-hooing' about how the government is going to take your erotic pictures away from you and make you a criminal for having them in your possession, why not do something about it? It's not too late.

Here's something you can do right now. This is a link to an online petition you can sign.

If this Section becomes Law, it will create a 'thought crime' as described by George Orwell in the book '1984'. If enacted, it would remain lawful to own and to display publicly extreme, violent images intended to sell (advertising), to excite (video games), to entertain (gore/ horror films), to inform (TV news) and to be worshipped (crucifix). Ownership of only one category of extreme imagery would become a criminal offence meriting three years in prison; material intended to arouse sexually. That is, a state of mind of the user/ owner would become illegal. Actions and effects on others are valid reasons for the State to punish individuals. Thoughts and feelings are not.

Hey, here's a thought, how about contacting your lawmakers to voice your objections to this law and demand that they change it? You already have at least one sympathizer in Parliament.

Harry Cohen, a Labour member of Parliament:
``Everybody is opposed to violent acts that are real violent acts, but when it is simply for sexual purposes such as bondage, it shouldn't be a criminal offense,'' Harry Cohen, a Labour member of Parliament who wants the bill amended, said in an interview in London.

Or, get involved with people at Informed Consent, who have been staging protests on the steps of Parliament and outside the British Library. http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/weblogs/Degenerate/191259/

Or, go to:
backlash, http://www.backlash-uk.org.uk/index.html, to find out "What can you do?"
Censorship law
For the first time in the western world, when extreme image clauses come into effect in January 2009 it will be illegal for anyone in England and Wales - but not Scotland (Yea for the Scots) - to possess such an image.

The Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill received Royal Assent on Friday 9th May 2008. According to a
letter from the Ministry of Justice to backlash, the government will kindly provide further guidance nearer January.

"Hard cases make bad law" is an aphorism much beloved of legislators. It is also a motto that could be usefully tattooed on the foreheads of British MPs. Because right now the British government is about to pass a very bad law, rooted in one tragic case.

The tragedy in question is that of Jane Longhurst. Five years ago Ms Longhurst, a Brighton-based teacher, was brutally murdered. At the trial it emerged that her killer, Graham Coutts, was a fan of violent porn websites with names like Rape Action.

The transport secretary would be delighted to introduce Opus Dei to your bare bottom.  Tom Logan said his publication featured staged scenes of consensual sadomasochistic sex, and called for himself to be strapped to a St Andrews cross by home secretary Jacqui Smith and his penis flayed with a wet cat o’ nine tails.

It seems to me that various governments have already enlisted the interenet search engines and ISP's (orange.fr in my case) to enforce 'their' views on morality already. Some of the harder bdsm sites are no longer available...unless someone out there knows something I'm missing.
