Status: offline 		i am not an expert but i don't think so...my sister bought an hp with Vista and she tried to get it uninstalled and get xp on it and it is a no go.
 
there is a thread about Vista if you do a search you should be able to find.

Status: offline 		The problem with installing XP on a system that originally came with Vista may be the same one that I had when I replaced my old system.  A lot of the newest hardware is absolutely NOT backwards compatible - it was designed not to be able to run with anything But Vista from everything that I've been able to find out.  And trust me, I have NOT been a happy camper about that.

Status: offline 		For hardware, you just need the specific drivers. Usually the specific parts distributor will have them for download on their website, but I had an incident where a Toshiba Satellite model did not have the Wifi card drivers for XP on the website (only Vista), so I had to get a generic set of driverpacks which automatically installed the correct driver and got it working fine on XP. Usually for the more popular hardware, people always write drivers for them (sometimes it's not that hard to code).

When I bought a laptop I had the choice of having XP installed on it instead or Vista, I choose Vista because I know Microsoft only ever do cosmetic changes to their operating systems anyway. I don't see any big difference between XP and Vista than the fact some of the old programmes I had needed service packs to be able to run with Vista.

I just can't understand why when given the choice someone would choose XP when that is going to become unsupported by Microsoft a lot quicker?

Status: offline 		Vista still has issues with some older hardware and software. That is about the only reason now, but there are enough gamers and businesses with older software to make people want to go with XP. Even with service packs and such, Vista is still buggy with older software.

Status: offline 		I've never owned a mac so am not the best person to advise on that. I hear from Mac users they are superior and if your intension is music production or other similar more artistic uses of a computer then a Mac does excel in these areas I'm told.

Vista is a disaster- the worst operating system since ME.   I'm not down on Microsoft, but Vista is a failure.  It is difficult to use and very unstable.  I've replaces Vista with XP on a Dell without many problems.  Office 2007 is just as bad, I went back to office 2003.

Vista is a disaster- the worst operating system since ME.   I'm not down on Microsoft, but Vista is a failure.  It is difficult to use and very unstable.  I've replaces Vista with XP on a Dell without many problems.  Office 2007 is just as bad, I went back to office 2003.


first, I recently worked for Dell, so I actually know why you didnt have issues
its the hardware they use, unless you spend like 3k on one of thier systems, you arent getting new enough hardware for it to be a problem...

As far as Vista being hard to use? how, is it the search bar? or maybe the way it automatically does nine things out of ten, like replace corrupt system files. I mean, there would have to be something rather spectacularly screwed right the hell up with Vista, that I have yet to see on either of the machines I own that run it, to really make it comparable to the way ME sucked the fat ass. Its actually the most stable system, given its propensity to fix most problems it encounters on its own, unless you do something stupid to it.

Office 07 can get a bit too complex for a lot of people, we use it at work with little to no issue, but we dont do much with it.

Unless you have Vista basic home, or 64-bit you should be fine, considering that Micro$oft has officially dropped XP on the curb to fend for itself, and most software devs are only going to write for Vista, and in a few years, Vienna, keep what you have, and learn to use it.

Good news, there are a metric shit-ton of resources out there to help you get the hang of Vista, and as long as you dont over-think things, you should be fine

Status: offline 		What's wrong with Vista?  How about we Start with the fact that it autoloads a bunch of useless Ram eatting Crap, most of which either can't be turned off, or it's difficult to find Where to turn  it off so it doesn't immediately eat 3/4 of my Ram as soon as I turn my system on.  For that matter, how about the fact that it needs that much frikking Ram in the first place, to the point where I have to put twice or three times as much in my machine (forcing me, of course, to spend extra money on More Hardware) than ANY of my programs require - Except the OS!  How about the fact that there Are No Drivers for the newest hardware Except for Vista - which means if you want new hardware, you aren't given a choice of OS, it's Vista or nothing.  (Yes, I've looked to try and find drivers for the hardware that's on my system for other/ earlier OS's, they don't exists, and I lack the programming expertese necessary to create them myself by a long shot.)   Or how about the fact that it's So buggy with older software that using some of my most useful Specialty programs (business wise) causes Vista to blink in confusion and crash either itself or the program?
 
Personally, I Detest Vista, and would absolutely LOVE to get locked into a room with the Moron who decreed that this pos was going to completely replace XP - along with a set of medieval torture implments, a couple rolls of duct tape, and a good straight razor.

while that does sound like a fun night, with the tape and all, allow me to retort

on resource cost to run it... remember when xp came out? remember when 8 megs RAM was a lot? every OS does that... ever heard of Crysis? that game takes over twice the resources to run, and that is the way of the future... find me a current OS that can run on a 286 and Ill relent...

1/2 of what it autoloads can be disabled so it doesnt, the other 1/2 are there to maintain security and system stability.

as far as the drivers not being there for xp... honestly, tough... take it up with the hardware manufacturer that decided they didnt need em... XP will still acceept most generic drivers anyway.

As far as the software, again take it up with them, most of the time they will have a patch available, but, as much as this hurts to say, that one isnt Micro$oft's fault... the software dev packages were released over a year in advance, (I know, a company I contracted with needed my help when they got one)

Vista had some huge glaring problems when it first came out, not as bad as XP SP2 did (where they needed to buy an entire new line just to handle calls on it) but bad... luckily most of those have been fixed...


((Wonder what your reaction would have been had you read the original requirements for Vista... 2 gigs of RAM min))

Status: offline 		Yes you can if you have a valid product key which you get when you buy windows XP which you wont get with an old version of XP taken from another machine where XP was installed by the manufactuer because the key is only valid for their equipment.
 
You may have issues with some drivers however.  You need to try and find them all in advance before you do it.
