Status: offline 		The DNC Rules Committee just decided to count only half of Florida and Michigan delegates in the convention. It took over 3 hours behind closed doors in secret for this one committee to reach this deal.

So much for that battle cry of the Democratic party the past 8 years to "count all the votes!" What a fraud this country has become.

Status: offline 		I said this in another thread but it still remains true.  If you are a part of any organization and you are caught breaking their rules, you will recieve some kind of punishment.  There was a warning of "Don't move your primary" and an ignoring of said warning.  Now, they are mad because they have to face consequences.  This is not a hijack.  Its a rare case of the DNC holding its own accountable.

It's a reasonable compromise, but it coming this late in the game it does the Democrats less good than it might have otherwise.

It is worth noting that the Republicans instituted the same penalty on the same states for the same infraction--but did so back before the primary season was even underway.  On the Republican side, there is no mention of any impropriety.

The "death penalty" the DNC originally implemented for both Michigan and Florida was a non-starter from the beginning.  Politically, it reeked of overkill, and the fact that other states violated the same rules and escaped sanction made the penalty appear extremely unbalanced.

It's a reasonable compromise, and the Democrats have burnt whatever political capital the reasonable compromise might have obtained for their candidate by waiting this long to reach it.

True.
 
Look at it from a D/s point of view; you have a submissive, that you tell to take a dump only in the guest bathroom. They threaten to disobey, and you warn them what the consequences will be. Well, the submissive goes and takes one in your bed....what do you do? Let it slide? Say "oh well, they need to be able to take a shit, it's only right"?
 
It's a shame the voters of Florida and Michigan have such dumb fucks leading them to this.

Because I feel the primary process is flawed. The voters are idiots. And the media had turned election politics into nothing more than an overhyped sporting event.

Do people actually think anything is going to change no matter who is elected? Even if Nader wins nothing will change. The president is not a dictator. He's not emperor. Everything he does still must be approved by Congress and any Joe that follows the news knows damn well that Congress is a big part of the problem in D.C. I mean does anyone actually think universal healthcare will EVER get through the US Congress? It will be filibustered to death and anything that gets through will be very watered down, be more complicated than the tax code, and be loaded with entitlements and pork.

Nothing changes.

They do have that; it's called the convention. 


No they dont. That's when the delegates meet. Im talking about the primaries and the caucuses. They need to have them on one big Primary day.

Why is New Hampshire and Iowa so much more important than Florida or Michigan?

Status: offline 		BECAUSE ....(ideally) they are more centrist, and by and large (in the nautical sense) america has done the best with centrist (of either party) presidents.

Kinda like if you already got a girlfriend, sorta thing.  Once you have proven to be habitable, all kinda girls want you, other than that, they're scared.

Fast answer:  it is part of the process by which the next President of The United States is chosen.  Therefore it is of interest to every person within these United States.

Ja, how does one deal with that?  I am for you 100%.  Look, people can whine and do the oh, poor things shit, but the contract is the contract, and they lost.

I imagine Rush, as he stated in his book, will take the maximum letter of the law, and as he said, insure that Hillary is supported.


The point being, one can whinge all they want, coulda done, shoulda done; we all cried.

Hillary and Obama are gonna be somebody, win lose or draw, and in terms of politic it is gonna be a republican rout........


Now, having said that, I am not in any wise convinced that there will be change, I suspect just like the last few administrations, it will be tax and spend.

It sounds great in theory.  Politically it was never going to happen.  Those votes are too important come November.

And thats where the Democrats screwed up--by allowing the issue to linger on until after the primary season, with the potential for a brokered convention still hovering around (albeit not likely at this juncture), reaching for the rather obvious compromise position this late in the game makes it seem more cynical, more manipulative, than it likely is or needed to be.

Reading the news accounts, the matter is not fully settled, there is still likely to be some noise at the convention, all of which will not play well for Obama.
