As well as D/s, my other big thing I would like to try is photography of a partner. As in purely amateur photography, of her modelling for me. Not necessarily making our own porn, though that would be an option too (though I would want it to remain between us), but private tasteful nudes, as well as plenty of clothed shoots.

Has anyone else done this with a partner, whether being behind the camera or in front of it? Share your experiences and ideas here (yes I have some of my own which I will have to share too).

Yes, both the.dark and I have photographed, and modelled for, each other. We're both big fans of photography and have our own, and a combined, websites showcasing our work. All of the photos on our profile are done by us.

As for tips, the key to a good shot is the lighting. Good light, or lack of it if that's the effect you're going for, can produce great pictures. Also, depending on what you want your pictures to look like, take a look at other people's work and bascially recreate poses and ideas initially to help to define your own style. Sometime's we'll be influenced by outside sources like, say, a movie - I had an idea to recreate the dreamy feel of Picnic At Hanging Rock, for example.

Bottom line - just pick up the camera and start snapping - it's fun!

There are a few photographers here and some are regular posters. Darcy and I work together and with others (as he has already said). I recommend checking out SimonRoss as well, his work rocks and he is posting here and DV is currently about to show the world her work - from what I have seen it's pretty fine.

You can pretty much let your imagination run wild, we do - using each other as models can be combined in play as well and rocks! We have spoken about video experimentation as well, and Darcy has already worked on a couple of non kink pieces so it is a natural step for us.

Hey guys thanks for that! Nice tips. The one about recreating others work is something I thought would be helpful too. Good way to get some ideas and think of your own.

However, I cant see myself being in front of the camera much. I don't really photo well haha, and I would enjoy taking the pics much more. But I would be willing to giove both a try.

I will go check out the other users shots :)

I've made attempts at photographing my ex girlfriends. They were just tasteful photos, but I am a horrible photographer. If my photos come out well, it's luck. I tried taking a phtography class in college, and I ended up having to drop it. I never could seem to grasp how to use lighting effectively. I was even worse when it came time to develop the film. It was before digital photography and I could never get my negatives to develop right. I just couldn't seem to grasp the entire process of film development. I tried to teach myself drawing once as well with equally bad results.

I've always wanted to learn how to do something artistic. I think that's why I admire people who are artistic. It's a complete mystery to me how they do it.

Yeah I can see what you mean slaveboy. I havent got the time to learn too much right now (being a student I am having to learn enough) nor have I got the money for an expensive camera. But thats where digi cam's come in. Whilst I am not one for altering pics with the aid of a computer much, a digi cam means you can skip the learning how to develop.
But I am all about new technolgy so some day I would love to use old school camera's and learn to develop all my pics, but for now, a digi camera can help me get a feel for photography.

I've seen you works and I think I would walk on water to be photographed by either of you.

My daughter used to be the photographer in residence and I thought she was amazing (she took most of the pics in my profile including this one <----------------). I love to take pictures too, but I think when you start with something beutiful you are already half way to a great picture. Digital cameras are a God-send to me because I know if I got a good shot or not.

Sadly, m'Lord doesn't have the passion for pictures that I do.

I have done some of this in the past, when I had a partner, too. Always the one behind the camera. I really enjoy lingerie and fetish photography. If I could only find the right partner for a model, I would be all set.

Darcy covered the most important part. Getting just the right lighting is the biggest key.

Another thing to watch are the angles of your shots. Sometimes a unique angle can create a great perspective. Other times it may make a photo dificult to view and destroy an otherwise great shot. The angle of a shot may also use lighting in different ways, too. Any subject will do as a practice model. Just get out and practice taking many photos of a subject from different angles and different times of the day for alternate lighting effects. This will help you develop an eye for what works and what does not. There is a reason why professional photographers rapid fire those shots when shooting models.

I recently had the fortune of being able to purchase my dream camera system, minus the extra lenses which will increase the value of the system exponentially. My choice was an Olympus E-510 digital SLR with a professional grade 12-60mm f2.8 lens, upgraded flash, brackets, filters, cords, remote, etc. It's a replacement system for my old 35mm SLR system which I loved. But, the cost of developing helped restrain me from really enjoy this hobby as much as I could. Moving into a digital SLR is great because everything can be done on the computer instead of dealing with film and developing.

You really don't have to acquire expensive equipment to take great photos, though. You can take really great photos with the cheapest pocket cameras if you develop the right eye for lighting, distance and angles. All the more expensive systems give you is higher resolutions for clearer and more detailed shots, and better control over the perspective of the shot by using different lenses.

Combine the right lighting and perspective with a photogenic subject and you can look like a pro without the expensive equipment.

Just get out and enjoy doing it.

We love photography and we take a lot of pictures. beth enjoys being in costume and out. Many are from places we've visited. Over time we've gotten better with the tripod/timer. Our profile picture is our favorite and we'd love to get it done as an oil portrait.

We've posted many on the Flickr website here which allows you to post your work. I don't think there is any problem posting explicit and/or 'lifestyle' pictures. So far none of our photos have been rejected for content.

I am the least photogentic person you will ever meet. A good photographer makes alllll the difference. ^_^

Check out www.DwenStuart.com. He has some amazing fetish photography, and some other stuff that's absolutely beautiful. My favorite is the one where the girl is jumping on the bed, and he caught the shot as she was about four feet off of the ground.

yay! I get smuggled!! WOOHOO!!

I've gotten some really decent pics with my cheapie HP digicam.. mostly by luck.. but my stepdad (who was a veryu talented amateur photographer) told me years ago that most of the best pics ever taken were luck, as attested to by the people who took them.

I love photography..

I have done some of my own using a tripod and timer on the camera my faves I tend to like seeing how they look as black and whites also have had a couple doms take pics of me as part of the scene problems usually with background clutter

I have only recently discovered a love for picture taking. Camera settings and lighting are indeed important! So is the way a photo is framed (balance within the picture). I'm enjoying my explorations of this art.

I've been in front of my Master's camera a gazillion times. Sometimes I'm the one taking them of myself, but most of the time he is. What once felt a little uncomfortable is now is pretty second nature. I think he estimated something like 6,000 photos of me, in various compromising positions. :)

Something I found out accidentally; if you want your subject to look larger than they are, take a pic from a bit below them...(ugh...)

A pic taken from a bit above (imo) gives a much more flattering angle. (for most) at least in my experience.
