If I ever split up with my wife, I'm marrying that bike.  j/k

Is that likely.....the splitting with your wife I mean?

Mind you that bike would be a good substitute I guess

Irishknight -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (5/29/2008 3:05:50 PM)

Not likely.  I have a wife who converted me to poly and who likes to check out women with me.  She supports my jousting addiction and is always there to keep me in reality.  I love her and enjoy butting heads with her when she tries to outdom me.
I wouldn't put up with that from anyone else.
For the record dominant male + dominant female = sub desperately needed.

I'll keep that in mind, if I come across any I'll send them your way, if they are not my type of course.

MstrObjectmaker -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (6/2/2008 1:28:58 PM)

Looks like my getting a Harley V-rod is out of the question for awhile at least......

You see it was dependant on a kind of monetary gift due to an inheritance my aunty got from my grandmother......

My aunt inherited my grans house and has put it up for sale...originally the gift was to be a third of the value of the property........

But things change.....people change.......they begin to rationalise......

So instead of 10's of thousands the gift is well under 10 thousand.......well at least I will get something....I'll just have to down size my dream somewhat......perhaps an old iron head sporster chop......

I must admit my aunt had me going there for awhile. lol

I have to say I'm just a little gutted.....but hey its only money....right?

I am so glad I posted this thread......

You guys are great.......

But then I don't expect most women to get bikes.......

It's a good thing you used that qualifier. (most women)

This is by far the best book I have ever read about motorcycles.

The Perfect Vehicle
What It Is About Motorcycles

Here is what some others have said about it.

"This book, a polished, winding meditation on the theory and fractiousness of motorcycles, celebrates both their eccentric history and the wary pleasures of touring."—The New Yorker

In a book that is "a must for anyone who has loved a motorcycle" (Oliver Sacks),

"This is an exceptionally sensitive and intelligent book."--Robert Pirsig

This is the motorcycle memoir for those who are sick of memoirs--or motorcycles. It is a book for people who don't know what the big deal is about riding, or why the Guggenheim Museum in New York, in a swirl of controversy, would exhibit motorcycles as works of modern art. "Riding on a motorcycle can make you feel joyous, powerful, peaceful, frightened, vulnerable, and back out to happy again," Pierson writes, "perhaps in the same ten miles. It is life compressed, its own answer to the question, 'Why?'

Every motorcycle magazine I read that wrote about it did so
with acclaim.  From Sport Rider to the chopper mags.

The author's name is Melissa Holbrook Pierson.  She gets motorcycles.

Dont get a V-rod it handles like a harley!  You want cruiser with muscles and agility get a Moto Guzzi  Breva1100 or Griso.
Harleys handle poorly in the "corners" dept. , but score well in comfort.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (6/2/2008 5:10:39 PM)

The Harley’s can make going in a straight more fun than any other bike on Earth.  They are drag strip kings and the 2 wheeled Cadillac’s of the highway.  They are pimp sleds, hooter scooters and all those other pet names but they ain’t no café racers.

Dude… I didn’t read the whole thread but would say, if you are sporting a Bulldog, you may miss it if you end up on a Harley.

It took a long time for me to find love for the Harley after my 1968 Norton Atlas, and a slew of Triumphs and BSAs juiced with N2O (NOS).  My uncle had a Vincent Black Shadow pretty awesome!

You've been eavesdropping around here I take it? The Man keeps making noises about getting a bike and I keep reminding him we have three teenage boys between us and they don't need that. I'd like to keep them alive through college and beyond if possible.

Lynnxz -> RE: Harley V-Rod query. (6/2/2008 6:37:52 PM)

Screw a harley... have you seen those bikes that have a little jet engine underneath? It's probably a good thing I can't afford it, or I'd be peeling myself off the back 16 wheeler. [:D]
