I'm submissive as well (actually, I'm a switch, but I'm currently with a dominant man) and I can't stand the protocal. Then again, I'm a bit of a grammar nazi, and it pains me to see "i", "Me", "Wwe", etc.

Nicely put.

Master and I are grammar nazi's too.  If there is a long post with the W/we's etc I just dont bother reading it - it hurts my eyes lol.....

I am so glad I am not the only one who has trouble reading that stuff!

I am so careful with grammer myself I hate it when I see it abused in this way, it annoys the hell out of me for some reason.

I popped into one of these rooms, the general discussion chat room and had no problems.
I know on the other side users can create rooms and call the shots, I can see how they can kick you out.  I dont do those rooms.  This side seemed ok as far as chat rooms go.  I went into each of them without problems.

Actually all of the Chatrooms are user created and not moderated by CollarMe. Any of the people with the "@" symbol next to their name are the channel operators or moderators. The have the capability of kicking you from the room.

It's the very same system as IRC. CollarMe just has their own network, just like DalNet, UnderNet, EfNet or BondageNet.

I've had the same issue from time to time. I was once asked by a "D"omme why I didn't speak to other "D"ominants when I entered the room. (I said "Hello everyone" when I came in.)

I knew exactly what she meant so I explained: I speak here just as I would at a local event. I would never say "Hello captial E slash lower case e veryone", because it takes too long and I'd sound like an idiot.

She had a sense of humor about it and no one ever bothered me about it again.

Edited because the Script thinks my attempt to use the "at" symbol may have been an email address.

i thought online protocol was to type names as they are, and if you are in a BDSM chat room, typically, if you want to be identified as a submissive - lower case, if you wanted to be identified as a dominant - upper case...i wonder what vanilla's do.......but anyway...i've never seen anyone force you to change the case of your name to match your profile identified role...thats just weird...

What's weird is all this goofy high school shit about "online protocol". Get a fucking grip.

Oh man I so totally agree with what he said! Please do "get a fucking grip"!

Lockit -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 2:52:30 AM)

I was an op in some of those rooms and for a very short time, had a room.  There is reason for some of the rules, in caps becasue they want to be able to know who is dominant or who is submissive.  They run the rooms by their own rules and have little imput from CM.  They get a lot of trolls and kick with no abandon at times, which I found very discouraging especially for new people.  When I had my room I heard a lot of the complaints and how people were kicked for simply not knowing the rules in detail and without explaination.

I have seen dom's who wanted to bottom told to decap their nick.  I have seen people called troll for simply asking where a person lived or asl's, when they didn't know that was breaking the rules.  I have seen where people were treated badly for being ignorant of proper protocol.  Then I have seen one bad person come in and ruin great discussions with childish behavior and after three trolls or babies that take over the room with their diaper fetish, someone goes off.

I don't think that any of this is helpful to anyone and ego run's rampant.  Sure, when in Rome, live as the Roman's... go some place and obey the rules, but sometimes this stuff goes a bit too far and is hurtful to people.  People want to chat and they want to have a place to have fun, to learn and not get bashed in the head becasue they are still learning something and haven't had years of experience.  When we can't be tolerant and at least kindly explain the rules, we are the vultures and I almost have to feel bad for the trolls. lol

MstrObjectmaker -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 2:59:59 AM)

Great post, credit to the OP or should that be op, anyway great stuff.

LMAO a few times, made my day.

DesFIP -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 4:40:25 AM)

I'm not sure how she could remove you from a cme chat room. I'd be more likely to suspect a glitch. There aren't any rules demanding slashy speak here. Private rooms, sure. Maybe you ought to post which room, then all of us could go in caps on and refuse to submit to her.

truesub4u -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 10:26:06 AM)

Guess I been at this too long, I still think it's all BS. But then again that's why I started staying out of the chat rooms. Because everyone in  MOST them rooms acted like they owned everyone. Even the other dominant ones. It got boring watching the arguing all the time.

SweetNika -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 11:00:36 AM)

I simply explain my that Nika is my name therefore a proper noun and that weather my name  is capped or uncapped does not change who or what I am. I have seen more than a few 'instaDoms", people who simply cap their name and assume they have a clue. There are ALOT of chat room "protocals" that I just snicker at. If I find them to out of hand I simply leave the chat room and venture else where life is far to short to sweat the small stuff.

blessed be,
Nika

she'd have a field day with me.

I'd thank her for her opinion and go on my merry little way.

I also don't see how you could be removed just like that, moderators generally don't just sit on a chat sight waiting to yank someone.  I'd suspect a serendipitous gremlin.  Further, unless she was a moderator, she didn't have to power to make you do anything and I can't imagine a moderator here taking such punative actions.

I'm sure someone has already said this, but will say it in case they have not...there is a big notice on the chatroom page that states Collarme is not involved with the moderation.  All of the rooms are user created with the exception of the links from these forums to the respective chat rooms(and that is a new feature).  The owners and operators of those rooms may do as they wish in the respect of kicking someone, whether it makes sense or not, but Collarme is NOT involved in them.

edited to add:  So that means a moderator or administrative person from the site did NOT do it.

As far as I know they are user created, therefore the 'owner' has complete and total reign over anyone entering their chat room.I was banned from one here ages ago and have never returned. Yet I've chatted at other sites for a decade and ran a 100+ user room myself.  So it just depends on the user created rooms vs ones that are genuinely moderated.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 3:12:07 PM)

Well, i don't want to be capped - i would much rather have a hat - a top hat!

oh wait, head gear isn't what we were talking about is it?   Think maybe the emphasis on capitals is an attempt to give ritual to online communications, to somehow make them more "real".  When we meet someone in real time we shake their hand, talk about the weather - we have ritual to ease the initial communication.  There isn't any of that online, so people create ritual to provide legitimacy to what they are doing, and perhapes using capitals is part of this.

Sir and my relationship isn't very ritualistic, so my online communication tends not to be either.  I do know people that refere to themselves as 'this girl" and are very ritualistic, and if that is what they like, then more power to them.  Just don't insist that i do the same.  [:)]

windchymes -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 4:34:03 PM)

I remember chat room days a few years back when, if you didn't declare your a/s/l (age/sex/location) immediately upon entering a room, the mod police would start berating you and then ceremoniously boot you out of the room if you had bent over to tie your shoelace or let the dog out or something.  They were so proud of themselves.

as for my name...well my name is Michelle, and when you take the Mi off it becomes chelle, i'm not going to cap the c for some silly grammar rule, and i generally don't bother with caps all together because pressing the shift key strains my wrists while i am typing so much...and besides, it's my name, if you don't like it, ah well, not my problem, at least i don't make up title's for myself...

as for online protocol, substitute "standard operating procedure" in when ever you see "online protocol" or some variation there of as needed for noun/verb agreement and you get the idea...it's not a set of rules handed down on a stone tablet, but it is the way things are generally done, and if someone has the power (that's given, not earned as authority is) to boot you off a chat and you want to say in said chat, it is generally a good idea to do what that person says unless you want to find outself escorted out...and if you didn't do what that person said and you do get booted, you're own f'in fault...don't get your panties in a knot because they didn't do things "your way" or even the "right way"...it doesn't have to be anyway, but the way they want it to be...they have the power...

end rant
chelle

I have a good feeling I know which person the OP is talking about.

RipenReady -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 5:16:14 PM)

hmm..I've browsed the rooms before and never gone in because of all the rules and the "You must bow down to every Dom/Domme in the room upon entering" b.s.

Now, just another reason not to waste my time in a room.

StrongMale -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 6:29:25 PM)

I live by the protocol but that is me. Do as you please but know that some will not understand why a submissive would worry about it and then talk about it. Enjoy chat that is all it is.

angelwithhonor -> RE: Online Protocol (5/28/2008 6:50:18 PM)

i remember coming to yahoo user rooms. learning all the protacol that came with it. like girl,she,her..was meant slave. and always capping D's and lowers s's. i have to say i miss those fun days in the room, nothing but a game. a time to act stupid and serious and the same time. i have no interest now to go in the rooms. miss alot of my friends that chatted for years. but as all things change so does yahoo chat. i still do the internet protacol . bc i have done it so long. no one is fake if or if they do not use it. its just how we stated W/who W/we was in the rooms. dont know why some think its stupid when so many things here could be look as such. we all have so much in common, lets all hope its RESPECT.[:)]
