The problem with most of those types of products is that they can't be "turned off" once applied. They typically contain menthol and/or camphor along with other things. They're not water soluable and in fact in my experience, applying water tends to make their effect feel more intense. The products typically are oil based or something similar, which is why they're also difficult to wash off your hands after applying them . You're more likely to find relief with some kind of oil applied to the skin (baby oil, mineral oil, vegetable oil, etc) than you will ever get with water and soap. [&:]
The products act as skin irritants, thus part of the reason for the warning on the label to avoid mucous membrane areas (head of the penis, opening of the vaginal area, anus, etc.) so once applied, there's very little one can do other than wait for the skin to finish absorbing it and allowing it to dissipate. Years ago, I used to race bicycles and often used Tiger Balm to relieve muscle soreness after intense training or races. I remember once applying it on my thighs after having showered and not putting on any underwear. It wasn't long before I had it on my scrotum and I can tell you that it wasn't a pleasant experience.
