Good points one and all. However direct reponses are not in order right now. But someone brought up bright lights, a catchy tune etc. Well that strikes a chord with which I resonate. A couple of years ago I had a concept, which resulted in my inventing a word. Mediasong. It should be fairly obvious what this means, but I think it necessary to elaborate. Quick pertinent fact, after the fact : A buddy of mine recently went to school for voice training. He and his Wife decided it wasn't all that expensive, so go for it. In the school's pitch were the words "Every time you hear someone speak on TV, radio, anywhere, they are getting paid". What has this to do with this issue ? People are addicted. People sleep with the TV on, some can't without it. In fact I remember a day, I was perhaps four years old, and my bedroom was nearby where the TV was. I fell asleep to it every night and actually made a strink about it crying, they turned it back on. The fact that I remember this amazes me, but it is true. What did people do before TV though ? They didn't get used to it. But when people started using the TVsitter, things changed. There is a desire for constant sound whether it be dialogue, music, or even advertising. And I myself know how hypnotic the first color TV we ever got was. Before my time though, people would go to the cinema. The movie started, and then ended. During the other time there was socialisition. People skills developing among the young as well as some finer points discussed by others. In the early days of radio it would only be on for some sort of program, the news, a couple of other things. Now people have to have them in their cars, and even headphones and ipods. They never want it to stop, except when they answer the cellphone : " Hi watcha doin ?/on my way home from work, the olman wants a sixpack and I need smokes, then I gotta cook dinner and put the kids down/well my olman bla bla bla this and bla bla bla that/I can't do shit about that, leave the SOB like I said bef, hold on, BOOM, shit I just hit a truck". Ain't having a cellphone great ? So now when there is absolutely nothing, there is always someone you know with drama in their life. It bores me actually. Some people attract it. Almost live for it. If that's not good for the PTB I don't know what is. I am writing this as a graduatre of JAIL for a loud stereo, but I do not even have a radio. I will control it, I do not want a DJ. I have a wonderful TV I am going to restore and it is going to look great, but in February I will not be getting one of those boxes. I am no longer interested in the mediasong. Gotta run for now. BBL. T
