So i had the bright idea of having my tongue pierced! Already having my naval, ears and beauty spot done and none of them hurting, i thought it would be a doddle.

Yeah right!!

Firstly the anaesthetic supposably tasting of bananas tasted more like neat dettol (not that ive tasted it, but my imagination reckons so). Secondly keeping from swallowing for a whole minute whilst signing my life away was hard. I'm usually so good at multi tasking too!!

Then i find out i have an abnormal tongue!! My frenum is very close to the end of my tongue, my tongue only being small. That meant that i couldn't have a straight through piercing as it would have been too near the end of my tongue or through my frenum, which is a no go apparently.

So ten minutes of clamping my tongue and pulling it this way and that it was decided to go through the centre of the top of my tongue but angle to the left so it would be far enough back and not hit my frenum.

Dilemma over!!!!

Nope!! Now she was worried about piercing my lip at the same time because of the angle. By this time i was terrified. All the talk of abnormal tongues, needles (terrified of them) and accidental aside piercings - argh!!

Needless to say the actual piercing was fine other than feeling like someone had just stuck a big needle through my tongue (ya don't say).

Today though i have a tongue too big to fit in my mouth (only one side i might add) and a speech impediment that everyone around here is finding extremely amusing. Oh and for a tongue that is too big for my mouth i can't stick it out, whats that about?

Not to worry though, the swelling will have gone down by next tuesday and i can have a more sensible sized bar put in. Next tuesday - argh!!!!!!!!!!

Why oh why did i think this was a good idea?

Can anyone say.....OUCH! I remember when my nephew got his tongue pierced and we couldn't understand him for a week! I think ice chips became his best friends. Congratulations on your new piercing.

UMMMMM...oh hell no!!!! I would have called it quits as soon as they started talking "abnormal tongue" and after the 10 minutes of figuring out how to do it!

You are a braver person than I am......*shudders*.....it's all I can do to get my blood work done at the doc's, I can't imagine getting anything pierced! I'm such a coward, I don't even have pierced ears! I already have enough holes in my head!

when I checked out a tongue piercing I was strongly advised against it because of how far my frenum extended, he said that if they pierced through it it could cause a permanent speech impediment. A second opinion desuaded me not just because of that but because I seem to lack the ability to curl my tongue normally which was apparently another red flag, so I guess it's a desire that will never come to fruition, though I was told by the second piercer that I could have surgery to make my tongue a better candidate.

My sister got one, her frenum is alot like mine and she suffered no ill effects long term, though she said the healing process was a bitch.

You know what's funny is that people who are tattooed and pierced are some of the wimpiest when it comes to having their blood drawn in a medical setting.

Gargle the yellow listerine for a bit, and use a lot of ice-chips.... just stay the hell away from OJ or anything with salt....
