Hello All:

As some of you know, I foster cats/kittens and have acquired 2 3 month old babies who came to me as "wobble kittens".
http://www.felinexpress.com/kitten-care/wobbly-kitten.asp

They are brother/sister and were "fixed" on Fri. The girl, Jilly, is having a VERY rough time since the operation. Before Fri., she was VERY active/could keep up w/her brother, Jolly during playtime when he'd tackle/or chase her. Since the operation, she can barely stand up/when she does, she falls down. I may not get her back if the vet decides she's too sick/needs to be put down so I'm asking you for your prayers for my little girl.

Thank you!

As a fellow animal lover I feel for you.  It's always hard to lose a pet but when they are so young I think it is doubly hard on the owner/caregiver.  Will keep your kitty in positive thoughts and hope for the best!

I'm an animal lover myself and I know that situations like this are heart wrenching. However, I did read the article you posted. I am left to wonder if euthanasia might not be the kinder thing to do. I understand the need to rescue....I've rescued many myself. But I also can't imagine trying to live my whole life not being able to get my balance. My heart does go out to you, it's a hard spot to be in.

Its only been a few days - and her brother had a much less invasive procedure. Give her time, TLC and keep the naughty boy away from her so she can get some rest?

Ordinarily I would agree w/you, mistoferin, however, I've lived w/these kittens for a couple of weeks prior to their surgeries, & I tell you, they get along just like other kittens, running, climbing, jumping, running, 100% litter box trained, running, cuddling, did I mention running?  They are such little bursts of energy and will only fall over when the first get up after lounging or when they tackle each other, but when they get their footing (or is that pawing), they're wrestling/running.
I have a friend who had a rabbit who's head was twisted so it almost overlooked her back. I told my friend she looked like a science experiment gone wrong. This rabbit did everything rabbit's do, but toppled over more often than not. THAT was an animal I would have humanely put down. But these 2 are more normal than abnormal. It was told to me on Sat that cats w/this condition can not adjust to sudden changes in their environment at the same pace others can. They have a "spinning sensation" and have trouble finding their way around :( Though when I got them, they came to my place in their carrier, the boy, Jolly, walked out first, doing the investigative thing cats do, followed by Jilly. They had little to no issues adjusting but then again, it's just Sir/me. When I had my grandkids over, they were fine w/the kids.

**Eta, have to agree w/LadyEllen but her brother has to stay w/her at the vet. He's her "security". When they were first rescued, he would lean over her to protect her whenever anyone looked into their carrier. They groom each other, lie down/hug. He's  necessary for her recovery but also under watch in case he wants to play**

Aww, P'hotty, that's incredibly sad, poor wee furry sausage. I know how I feel when my guys have been ill and there's been uncertainty as to their recovery. Think positive, you're doing all the right things and I'll keep all that I can crossed in the hope she makes a full recovery.

Thank you, MissM. I appreciate your kind words!  They have a call into a neurologist to consult, but think they want to move forward with steroids -- there can sometimes be swelling of the brain for these cats post anesthesia.  But before dispensing the steroids, they want to check for toxoplasmosis -- they don't think that's what we're dealing with, but they want to be sure before they do the steroids.

My wishes for the little kitty ...sometimes anesthesia drugs can be hard on some animals and hopefully as it clears her system further she will recover..playing the waiting game is tough ... hugs

My "boys" have their little kitty toes crossed that all works out well for her.  Having had females that were spayed, it did take a couple of days for them before they were back to 100%.  Brother will keep her company, hopefully, he won't want to roughhouse too much.

Lots of good thoughts to all of you!
