I was wondering what type of rope you use for bondage?
I currently own the japanese silk rope, but that is a bit more expensive than regular rope and I would like to get a good stock of "regular" rope from say DIY etc.was wondering what all of you use with your bondage? I am aware some is scratchier than others, some bends easier etc. which is why Im asking.

I found this thread very helpful.

Go to a boating store and ask for pre-made sheets.  1/2" black double braid.  Wouldn't hurt to bone up on splicing and whipping then you can buy exact lengths by the foot.

Hemp and jute primarily for play and photoshoots. Incidentally static climbing rope. And I got 100m pf synthetic hemp for my birthday which I still have to make into a decent rope set.

cotton...

no allergic reaction; no rope burns, no scratching, no pinching, no melting when candle wax gets dripped on it, etc.

I started off with 100 feet of the cheap plastic rope (looks kinda like climbing rope) for $10 bucks. after I cut and fused the ends into a variety of lengths
I did get about 6-12 months out of them using them 1-2 times a month.

but honestly after getting my first piece of high quality nylon rope. then shortly after 2  pieces of lower quality hemp I will never go back.

with that said:

www.twistedmonk.com for hemp
www.rainbowrope.com for nylon in some of the most delicious colors

it also helps that I have meet the people at various vending events and they are very very cool. the passion is definitly there.

I still keep 2-3 pieces of the old crap in my bag for 3 reasons: a) Disposable rope b) if someone I don't like or trust asks to borrow rope. c) my friends and I can't fit the spanking bench into the trunk unless we leave the trunk open...so then I have Cheap rope to tie it down with...and save the good stuff for human skin of people I like:)
Cheers
Skully

Greetings,

SJ prefers jute rope.  I like it too.  It has a nice bite to it so the rope doesn't slip around a lot.  Makes beautiful ligature marks on pale skin.

I started out with solid-braid Nylon rope (from Home Depot at the time).  Works pretty well, is inexpensive, and if you find the 100% Nylon rope (most is a Nylon/Poly blend now) it will take dye pretty easily (there is even a TKB video on how do it - http://youtube.com/watch?v=z49LLxew83U).  There isn't much difference between solid braid Nylon and MFP (which is what Rainbow Rope primarily seems to sell).

I eventually tried some Hemp and really like the way it handles.  It does take more to break-in, especially if you condition it yourself instead of purchasing it.  Some people are also allergic to it (grass allergies), so that does need to be taken into account.

I've tried Jute and its softer then Hemp, but also nowhere near as strong.  I've handled Silk and really like the feel, but haven't been able to play with it yet.

Like others, I find the softest black line I can find at a marine supply house such as the West Marine near the Backdrop Club in Mountainview, California.

The different rope constructions to choose from are, for example,
- Twisted (this is the most common 3-strand laid rope, general purpose)
- Plait (4 sets of two-strand rope intertwined like a schoolgirl's braids)
- Solid Braid (firm, round, doesn't unravel much)
- Hollow Braid (braided outside jacket, hollow in the center, collapses when knotted)
- Double Braid (two braids in one, an outside braided jacket & an inner braided core, easy to handle)
- Diamond Braid (tight outside braid with stranded core, pulls tightly)
etc.

And the different materials are:
- Cotton (soft and pliable, and easy on the skin)
- Nylon (elastic, durable, soft on the skin)
- Polyester (more durable than nylon but not as soft)
- Polypropylene (strong and soft, get the velvety multifilament fiber construction)
- Polyethylene (similar to polypropylene for BDSM purposes)
- Manila (rougher, less pliable, too many hair fibers for BDSM use)
- Unmanila (polypropylene that looks like manilla, even down to the hair fibers)
etc.

Generally what ever suits the piuropose and the victim. I like 10mm dia. woven cotton because it dyes easily and washes supurbly. However when I'm ready to look at rigging for suspension I'll be investing in climbing/repelling rope at AU$400 per 100 feet roll.
