I'll go ahead and add something to this. There is not a damn thing wrong with working someplace like McDonald's when you are younger. I don't know why so many people look down on jobs like that. It's an entry level job. I had a friend that started working at one when he was 16. He stayed there and endured the jokes from people. He eventually worked his way up to a regional manager job making $60k a year. I think a lot of these younger guys get the wrong impression from society that jobs like that are beneath them. We all have to start somewhere, and I don't belittle anyone that is willing to work. I don't care if it's flipping cheeseburgers or cleaning toilets. A lot of us are guilty of ridiculing people that work in those kinds of jobs, and we shouldn't do it. I got a little pissed off one time at these teenagers mocking the employee of the month picture in a little grocery store. When the fuck did it become okay to mock people that are willing to work?

Except Gunnery Sgts and Drill Instructors have to be nice now, they can't hurt the poor recruits' feelings or work them too hard in the hot afternoon sun. I can't help but wonder sometimes if there is any hope left at all for coming generations...

I think there never was a decent argument for a mandatory two-year military service requirement, and it's sexist of you to limit it to young men. The Gen. Hershey mentality ruined a chance I had for a remarkable career (admittedly in conjunction with a lack of capitalization), and I believe the country is much the better for having at least learned something from the 20th century. Rather concentrate on improving the educational system, which is generally underfunded and incompetent to prepare people for the information age.

Even the military can't help some of these kids. There are too many that just need to be put down for the good of humanity.

How about they should stay in school, get an education, go to college, and make something of themselves instead of being a bunch of degenerates? With a college education, they could manage (or own) the manufacturing plants and be a greater asset to society, too.

Hell, the military isn't a bad option, either. It teaches discipline, something a lot of young people need today.
