Katrina wasnt New Orlean's punishment for anything - it was natures way of flushing and Houston became the cesspool....

You get more and more charming by the day [>:] .

Why because I dare speak the truth? Want to buy some houses in formerly nice blue collar working class neighborhoods? They used to be worth $60,000 - $75,000. I can hook you up TODAY with no fewer than 20 houses, currently or formerly occupied by Katrina refugees now selling for $20K or less. You think a house for $11K, $15K, $17K ASKING PRICE means New Orleans was good for Houston? Teachers quitting to work in Walgreens or HEB because of the little thugs they have in their classes now?  Invite them to your town if you disagree?

You don't speak the truth. You spew hate and anger and you make terribly inflammatory statements without backing them up with facts - tell me: what do you get out of being so hateful?

There are your facts. Heres some more http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15363306/

or "2005 - "Blood Style Gangs" emerged for the first time, along with the unrest among the new arriving students from Louisiana who had fled from the flood waters.  A resurgence of gang activity was noted in our schools. " From the Pasadena ISD (School) Police.

There are your facts...   Oh and before you acuse me of racism - the New Orleans influx ruined ALL parts of the city. Middle class mixed neighborhoods, black neighborhoods, hispanic neighnorhoods etc. Missouri City, TX out by Sugarland is more than half black and it is a GORGEOUS place - low crime, terrific folks, manicured lawns etc and they put their foot down and said NO, Dont send them here! Clear Lake City (Where NASA is) is about as diverse as a place can get and they too drew the line. Its about shit, thugs, freeloaders, and criminals - NOT race.  As I said Missouri City is more than half black, and I will go there any time day or night and walk down any street without fear. The third ward in Houston, I wont even drive through without my gun in my lap...

The incorrect thinking, in this instance, is not that mal behavior is the problem; it is assuming that the only "thugs" came from Katrina. It is a "compared to what" problem - there is no way to determine if it was happening / would have happened that way anyway.

Bat, no there is a direct cause and effect relationship. If the booking report indicates "previous address - New Orleans, LA" and the landlord is FEMA. Its a pretty good sign they are Katrina refugees. As in the case of the school police reporting the emergence of the Bloods Gangs - of the students former school was in New Orleans... You cnat pick up the Houston Chronicle without reading a story saying "A Baytown couple was murdered, the suspect so and so, formerly of New Orleans..." Do a search on Chron.com and youll be shocked.

You were doing better when you were giving South Africa hooker advice or explaining how great you were for hiring illegal workers.

With your latest musings, not so good...

Aviator, I try to be fair.  I understand what your saying.  We had a lot of Katrina folks come here to Arkansas.  Yeah, there was a few of them that came up here and caused problems.  I still remember one dumbass robbing a Walgreens, then walking across the street and robbing a liquor store.  Both of these stores were on the same block as the police station; not too bright.  But I found the majority of them to be nice people.  I have friends that are school teachers, and they said a lot of those kids had a hard time adjusting.  It was a cultural shock for many of them, and a lot of the kids were understandably traumatized.  So there were some discipline problems.  But for the most part, those kids absorbed into the schools.  I know a bunch of people from New Orleans that chose to stay here.  Although there aren't a plethora of good jobs in this area of Arkansas, we have a good standard of living.  You can live comfortably here on 30k a year, and we don't have anywhere near the crime that New Orleans or Houston have.

Now I understand Houston got a lot more people from Katrina than most places.  But you have to ask yourself...What if it had been the other way around.  What if Houston had got the brunt of a category 5 Hurricane, and people were evacuated to New Orleans.  Do you think it would have been any different?  I imagine the Houston thugs would have shown up there and did the same thing.  That's just territorialism.

Now on to those houses you cited.  I don't see how those houses were a result of Katrina.  They look like they have been worn down for awhile now.  Every city has eye sore buildings like that.

thornhappy -> RE: McCains Mother's Day Ad (5/13/2008 5:01:14 PM)

Folks could come up with houses like that right in Dayton - there are some in bad enough shape that you can buy them for $1 and a plan for rehab.
