FORT WORTH, Texas —  An Arlington woman who caused her lover's shooting death by falsely crying rape was found guilty Friday of involuntary manslaughter.

Tracy Denise Roberson, 37, cried slightly when the verdict was announced after jurors had deliberated for more than a day. The punishment phase was set for Monday, and she faces two to 20 years in prison.

In late 2006, Darrell Roberson came home from a late-night card game to find his scantily clad wife with another man in a pickup truck in the driveway. Tracy Roberson was with her lover but cried rape, and her husband fired four shots into the truck as Devin LaSalle was driving off, killing him.

Darrell Roberson initially was arrested, but the murder charge later was dropped and a grand jury indicted Tracy Roberson instead.

During her three-day trial, defense attorneys called no witnesses but blamed LaSalle's death on Darrell Roberson's jealousy and rage.

But prosecutors placed all the blame on Tracy Roberson, showing evidence of the affair with LaSalle, 32, and a text message in which she invited him to her house that evening.

Just watched some talking heads on tv discussing this.... one said she should get 20 years, one said probation. I lean more toward jail time....

The husband shouldn't have shot the guy in the first place, rape or no rape: he was driving away, wasn't he  ? Fucking trigger happy cretin.

This isn't a discussion about kinky sex games.

You're cleverer than to think that someone's nationality makes them adhere wholeheartedly to their country of origins' legal oddities :-) .

And you would have been wrong... hopefully, this story will make gunners think twice before impulsively reacting to hearsay.

Yeah, if I thought someone had just raped my wife/girlfriend/family member......shame on them.

This is such a fucked up case.... it'd have been nice if she had kept her legs closed and he had kept his pants on.

And the gun safety on... you're right that it's fucked up, but the whole sorry incident could have been avoided in so many ways...

I shan't bother listing them all for fear of starting yet another gun/no gun controversy. Although on reflexion, the case illustrates the controversy in question beautifully...

You're right, and it's usually lovely when you're right, well, you're always right, really, but in this case, I'd rather you were wrong.

When you are shooting a love cheat don't expect the law to understand your plea of temporary insanity.

I bet she walks with probation.

I heard somewhere, (sorry, can't find the reference anymore) that for the same crime in the US, a woman stands a 20% chance of a conviction, and less than 25% chance of serving more than the minimum sentence, whereas a man is likely to be convicted 75% of the time and more than even chances of serving the maximum sentence, death penalty excluded.
