Obviously, there is nothing new in this development. Windmills and wind turbines have been around for a long time. What is gratifying is that a bright young man saw a way to improve his and his families lives, and maybe the lives of his neighbors and country. Here in North Kohala, we have a relativly new wind farm with about twenty wind generators, plus yesterday I met an engineer who is putting up a new one in families yards about every two weeks. The personal generators will actually run the electric meter backwards, and some families are seeing a credit on their electric bills. HELCO (Hawaiian Electric Co.) will not pay for excess electricity, but the wind generators are making a difference. The up front cost can be difficult, I have heard approx. 19k. Certainly they not viable everywhere, but the technology is improving all the time, and should be used where viable. Dragon
