ORIGINAL: DomKen I love umi. It is certainly a little odd looking but I love the taste. For Level and anyone else who has never tried sushi, I recomend it heartily. Start with a maki, there are a variety of good basic raw and cooked items that even an unadventurous eater will like. California maki is crab or Krab with some veggies and is quite good and the seafood is fully cooked. Tekka maki, raw tuna, is quite good. If the sushi restaurant is any good they'll have a sampler of some sort that isn't to outre. Although if you are willing to try things simply going into a sushi restaurant and sitting at the bar and telling the chef that you are a beginner and letting him make you a few pieces is an excellent way to get acquainted with sushi, the chef will know what is really top knotch that day and that can make a huge difference. BTW wasabi can be too intense for some people. You can spice up your sushi experience by just touching the wasabi with a pair of chopsticks and then stirring the soy sauce in the dipping dish with the same chopsticks. Do not get fooled by anyone into consuming any more of the green paste than that until you tasted it. I appreciate the tips, Ken. When I take the plunge, I'll be sure to post the results.
