RuheMaus -> D&D 4th Edition release - June 7th (5/9/2008 12:53:42 PM)

Is anyone planning on getting it?  Any word yet on whether the book of erotic fantasy will be converted over?

People will have to decide if transforming the D&D they know and love into a pen and paper fantasy MMO simulation is appealing to them. For me I'm sticking with 3.0.

I'm guessing 4.0 will flop big time and Hasbro will either outright give up on it or sell it to some small company that will care enough to do 5.0 right.

Has anybody heard any news on what kind of changes have been made?

They got a lot of the changes here

From what I am reading they are doing a complete overhaul.

DomKen -> RE: D&D 4th Edition release - June 7th (5/9/2008 1:52:14 PM)

Its far and away the biggest change to D&D ever.

The game has been redesigned to play like an MMO (WoW basically). I'm not kidding that was the design goal. Fighters are now tanks. Rangers do ranged attacks. Mages do status effects. The monsters have been similiarly redone so a group of orces will include tanks, controllers, healers etc.. The combat stuff is tied quite heavily to playing with minis on a 5 foot grid.

I've done a demo with the new rules and played a session with some playtesters and I hated it.

I read the information that was provided in the link on post 4 and I don't know if the changes are useful to the game.  I think alot more playtesting is needed to work out the bugs.

As a card carrying geek .... I JUST GOT USED TO THE LAST EFFIN CHANGE!!!!!!   Screw em all.  Lousy commies makin me buy more fargin books ....

Seriously, I probably won't touch the new system if it is so radically different.

Arpig -> RE: D&D 4th Edition release - June 7th (5/9/2008 8:51:50 PM)

I stopped buying when 3rd edition came out...me and my gang are antiques, we play 2nd edition.

Irishknight -> RE: D&D 4th Edition release - June 7th (5/9/2008 9:01:14 PM)

I still have nearly all of my 1st and 2nd edition stuff.   I may start playing hackmaster since it is a slightly modified 2nd ed.

Pyrrsefanie -> RE: D&D 4th Edition release - June 7th (5/9/2008 9:34:30 PM)

Woohoo, two days after my birthday!!!  I'll have to check it out... I'm glad they're releasing it even in the wake of Mr. Gygax's sad departure from this world.

I'm always biased as far as edition preferences though.  I learned to play D&D at age six using my mother's 1st Edition set, which I actually still have somewhere.  I dabbled in 3rd but still ultimately prefer Shadowrun and Vampire: The Masquerade... though I did have a Twi'lek Scoundrel in the Star Wars version.  I think I'm partial to those two particular TTRPGs, though, just because they're so fun to LARP.

bipolarber -> RE: D&D 4th Edition release - June 7th (5/10/2008 6:28:01 AM)

I gave up on traditional D&D after I discovered Denver's IFGS. Like sex, once you've played outdoors, in costume, and full scale, playing around the house, rolling dice, seems... trite. The only thing that comes close to the same kind of fun that I get with LARPing is, well, BDSM pony play.

Does it come with a D20 because I have some people’s feet to torture by leaving them strategically placed around the house?

Isn't it about time someone invented a D100, I know it would be gigantic and most nerds would probably be unable to lift it but think of the potential. [8|]

Raechard dice come in every shape, size, and color you could ever dream up.

Yeah but if the D100 lands on 100 that’s your game of snakes and ladders over with in one go.
