greetings,
on another forum group (non collarme) there was a question about the comment "males and females can be, and are slaves, thought most tend to be
female. " Though i tried to search for this topic i could not find results that stated of there are more of one then the other.....does anyone know of a poll or survey?

Please dont turn this into one vs the other...i am only looking for valid information not a flame war.....

Different areas you're going to find different dynamics. Even as far as different groups go. I ran a group in California for 6 years. We always had more male subs than female subs. No fem doms.
Here in Nebraska, I'm yet to see a fem dom and yet I can give you the name and address of at least a dozen male subs.

So, for me I see more male subs than female. Although that could also be because I've always got along better with men, we have more in common. I've always been a tomboy and could get in there and work with the best of them.

The point is these people are talking from their personal perspective and that changes wildly by where they are and hang out.

I've never seen a study on the topic, but if you want to consider responses on this message board topic to be a poll (however, informal, small-sample, non-representative, statistically biased, etc.), my personal experience would suggest that there are more male than female subs in the public scene at least. Or were you meaning to draw a distinction between subs and slaves (a whole different topic)?

Unfortunately, in an effort to get you good info---I think we'd need some qualities that would denote a slave for this---because some consider all slaves subs and viceversa---its pretty vague to give you good input.

I have to agree with sub4hire's experience. I now run a group in northern Ca, and there are probably 33% more male sub/slaves than female. I used to wonder why, then I started to think it may be social dynamics. Even as children boys tend to be in sports teams where they are part of a group, usually with a leader, an alpha, and court.. then the supporting members. There is less tendency for females to indulge in group sports, though they may do sports in general. Even then, sports dominated by females in many schools are gymnastics, tennis, ect.. not so much run as a team, but as an individual working for the team.
In any case having talked to more than a few bdsm group leaders around here in Nor Ca, the male sub/slave is more common than females.
But who knows what happens behind closed doors.

Define your terms. Slaves? In what aspect? Scene only or in life as well? Ere you be to talking about the scene, then I'd have to agree with the others here in that men are over-represented and ladies under.

I think that, all other things being equal, you're not gonna find as many female subs in the scene due to the fact that they can get their submissive needs meet, mostly, out in the real world within the bounds of a "normal" vanilla relationship. Sure, it's a role which is allegedly passe but there are an awful lot of "Suzy Homemaker" types still out there happily playing second fiddle to their man.

Looking at the dynamics of their relationship, us folk in the scene would peg it as being a D/S thing or at least having the overtones of it. So, for the ladies who are of that bent they can get those needs met whilst still in the vanilla world.

For the guys? Due to cultural constraints it's still gonna be rare for them to find a female partner who's assertive enough to fulfill those needs in that otherwise "normal" relationship. So, turn to the scene no few of them do. Hence the higher number of submissive men in the scene vs. women.

The guys have nowhere else to go in society to get those needs met. The women do - within the "traditional" vanilla male/female relationships.

About 2/3 of all the people I know or have spent any time with showed to some degree submissive qualities. This ranges for blue collar workers. non ranks in armed serces to professional people, CEOs Political people Line Officers, Heads of Givernments and members of various Roiyal Families. As to how many were actually submissive or invilves in some form of BDSM sub/slave dynamic? I haven got a clue. never asked them and it wouldn't have been polite to do so anyway.

i was indeed talking about 24/7 tpe slaves. Not the general public. i was looking for some sort of sensis or survey. It seems there isnt one to be found. So far from this thread most people seem to think there are more make subs then female...but then i have yet to run into a handful, accross five states and four major cities...
slaves - tpe 24/7 not sub...true slaves are harder to find then submissives....and TPE 24/7 are even harder....no offensive ment so please dont jump down my throat .....this isnt a post on slave vs sub...for each is as important to the individual as the other....and each individual has thier own perspective......this is about finding a survey on the approx # of female slave vs males slaves.....
i guess i will make a poll or survey to find out! :)

In our local region, my own experience is that the division is about equal though, again, that is far from scientific and I have no reason to believe it universal.

That is a very interesting question however I agree with some here as it depends on the definition of the term being applied first and foremost. It has been my experience that a female for the most part has a harder time seeing herself as a slave then a submissive with slave like tendencies that could easily become a slave. The ones that I have come across who come right out and proclaim they are slaves will only 'serve' other females even though most say they are bisexual. As for the males I have found them to have more conviction and dedication. They go the mile so to say. The groups and clubs in this area tend to have many Dommes and hence more male subs.

Such a poll online would be very difficult to assess, since overwhelmingly there are more men online than women. Just sayin.

thank you for the link Stephann, though it was not what i was looking for it was interesting....i think i already gave the definition of slave i was looking for...more of a Gorean type TPE 24/7 slave, one who follows protocols and lives for their Master....not weekend warriors, online wanna bees, sub- frenzied girls or goddess worshipers......a lifestyle which is lived not dreamed about.....though every ones perspective is different on what a slave is or could be.....and each slave needs time to grow into their place in their own way....this is the best i could do without writing a book on which type of slave i am looking for in the survey of # of men vs women.... pettingdragons**Master Dragons considered slave**

I have one full-time slave, and one by necessity part time slave. Neither of my boys lives with protocols or anything else like that. I believe the information you are going looking for is going to be very difficult to attain beacsue your definition of slave is engineered to fit one section better than another. If you are looking for those that live by Gorean type 24/7 protocols and all, then likely you will find it is mainly female. There are VERY few 24/7 male gorean slaves... I believe the lifestyle doesnt take well to them. My full time boy is in a much more relaxed environment. He is no less a slave, but I dont wish him t live with high protocol and all that. We have a far more realistic lifestyle together than the one you are looking for as an answer to your poll. I think you might find, out here, that the majority of 24/7 relationships, M/f and F/m are not nearly as high protocol and requiring the slave to live FOR the D-type.

My opinion.

i agree though it is difficult to define a slave in a 24/7 relationship...live in or not....the meaning of slave is 1:a person held in servitude as the chattel of another 2 : one that is completely subservient to a dominating influence 3 : a device (as the printer of a computer) that is directly responsive to another So submissives can be slaves too by this definition....and the printer well no idea where that comes into play...

there are so many out there that define themselves (or their dominants do) as slaves and some subs that i could swear where slaves so its a difficult call to make...in my world a slave just seems to have a little more on the protocol then subs but then thats by my world standards..and i have been wrong more then once...LOL the original comment was "To ask what a slave is might conjure many sorts of images. I doubt you're going to find any statistical data on this. All you're going to get is varied responses here depending on people's experience.

When i've been to BDSM clubs in NYC i've seen lots of submissive, voyueristic men wandering around aimlessly, fruitlessly in search of a Domme. But there is also a suburban club i've been to where the dymanic is reversed - primarily Dominant married men with their submissive wives in tow on a leash.

Then when i go to a Manhattan ClubFEM function, it's completely run by the Ladies, and the hand-selected submissive males present are all hand picked, half naked and serving them.
